Which method of teaching do you feel is the best? Or, which one works for you?
If you are not familiar with some of these, check out the link for a very brief overview:

I'd say total physical response, preferably with a wooden stick.
Btw, wouldn't this rather belong in the job discussion board? |

One of my students has to memorise a set number of vocabulary words per day. If he doesn't, his dad beats him. He has a large vocabulary, but every time he has to speak English, he starts to feel fear. |

I went with 'a mixture' but I think zolt's is the preferred method with my Korean colleagues.
I'm okay with the poking, but I draw the line at the high sticking... |

Man, you're being so provocative today...! Iwould have laughed more if you'd left out the word 'the' though...
Sorry, I'll bet it wasn't deliberate. Or was it? Hmmm... seem to remember the spanking the wood post earlier...
I'll resist maing the dumb joke... I will...
Yes, I'm growing up, I am.. 30 yrs old, and I'm finally learning to hold back...! |

OK sorry for joking on a serious subject. I actually checked the 'real' total physical response method on your link, it sounds like a nice change from what i've seen (esp from korean teachers).
Trying to teach more complex things like vocabulary for politics or modern-day macroeconomics would be an interesting exercise. Not sure I'm supple enough for those any more. |

See N. S. Prabhu's classic 1990 article in TESOL Quarterly, "There is no best method - why?" for the correct answer to your question. |

venus - it was partly deliberate. And partly because I have a box of chocopie and class was cancelled. I think I should slow down...
Great thread, I really am capable of this kind of discourse. Just not today. Maybe not until March 5, when school starts up (first day back is also my 33rd birthday). |

Scream, and when that doesn't work, scream LOUDER.
Afterwards, at home alone, scream like a baby.
Basically, scream all the time. |
