The third was a peakoiler, but many of the others were not. But if someone who believes in peak oil theory has evidence that the saudi's are full of shit I wouldn't toss aside the evidence just because he has different ideas about how the market will adjust to massive increased in demand for oil.
I don't know where you should look if not via a google search. |

Much more should be talked about concerning his other involvements worldwide. Also worth mentioning, maybe just a coincidence, but Houston's major real estate is very much Saudi "controlled". I'm sure Bush knows that much.

Didn't he - or was it another Saudi - buy a big chunk of Fox News? I read somewhere (I'll look for the link later) that he bragged about how he got Fox to change the wording of a "breaking news" headline with just one phone call. |

That would be Prince Bandar. I heard he also is a fav. of Murdoch or is it the other way around? I think the percentage in NewsCorp. was 5.6% or something. On the surface, not such a large amount but with his influence with other investors, a lot.
One must shake one's head at how this military guy is so close to Bush. And how Bush himself got his own seed money. Bandar is infamously nicknamed, "Bandar Bush" -- so much access he has and so much he can do through kitchen talks at the ranch, to sway U.S. policy.
I also read once he has the Guinness World Record for the number of bathrooms in a private dwelling. 26 in his Aspen spread.
But back to the point. It is precisely the hypocrisy and "political expediency" of the relationship the U.S. govt has with the House of Saud that is so mind blowing to so many, who keep abreast of political realities. It can't be overlooked when discussing foreign policy.

if you're really afraid of muslims why not actually meet some one day. invite them for a dink or something. |

You have missed the recent news stories about saudi schools in the UK using books that call Jews pigs and incite violence against non-muslims? In the UK. Government funded (by both the UK and Saudi).
The islamic ideas that come out of saudi are on par with the garbage spouted by Hitler. In fact, they may be worse. |

How is it that GAJ gets called a bigot? I'm so far blasted off from GAJ's positions regarding islam that I'd put him in the almost-Dhimini camp.
Is criticizing the hate flowing out of saudi bigotry? We are screwed if it is. |

You've obviously never worked as a barman in Londons west end. The only time there were no muslims drinking, was when there was an anti-US protest on.
They love the liquor as much as anyone else.
In any case, I don't see how bad sharia could be. It'd certainly stop all the crime and drug dealing in the west. |

I don't think our positions are that far off - I mean I'm no fan of religion in general (you'll see from the link that I got it from richarddawkins.net). Our differences arise from my essential view of the purpose of 9/11 and terrorism (as in that thread) and my conviction that internal change and progress in Islam can only come through moderate Muslims. If we set ourselves up as adversaries and fail to recognise the internal divisions within Islam we will alienate all Muslims from the West, not just the fanatics. That seems like a very dangerous prospect to me.
And Julius, I'd like to tell you about my Muslim friends, classmates and students, but I'm worried someone like stevemcgarrett will accuse me of being a fifth columnist for the Caliphate. |

I am in total agreement. Whether it is the Bush-Saudi love fest or the Clinton-Chinese orgy, administrations throughout the years have sold American security/status/foreign policy down the river for money and/or political expediency. I am still struck by the comment by General Ji, Head of Chinese Military Intelligence when he said in 1996 "We like your president. We want him re-elected." He said this just before 300K was funneled, by middle-man Johnny Chung, from the government of China to the Clinton-Gore campaign ( ref. China Gate).
In my opinion there is no administration - conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat that hasn�t played the proverbial harlot. The prostitute and the "John" may change but the same people always get "*&^%$# in the end. |
