WENT TO THE EMERGENCY:
After spending 7 hours in the emergency, seeing three doctors, two surgeons, and a battery of tests, I was finally diagnosed with something. I have Colitis. I have to go back to the internal medicine clinic today and talk with them and then have a colonoscopy done. FUN!!!!
Ok, this is not the most pleasant topic, but I am wondering if anyone has been suffering with the same thing as I am.
I have been trying to figure out what is causing my long term diarrhea problem. The first time I had it, I thought I was dying. I went to a clinic and it was diagnosed as food poisoning. Then it happened again except this time it only lasted a day whereas last time it was three days. From then on, has been a reoccuring problem on a semi irritating basis. However, this past weekend, I thought maybe I had food poisoning again. The pain in my lower abdomen was so intense. It has finally slowed down to pretty much nothing.
I am pretty sure it's not food poisoning. I barely eat out and I am cautious about the food that I do eat. I have been drinking lactose free milk, so I know it's not the milk. I drink bottled water for the most part. Has anyone developed a food allergy while they have been here in Korea? That is my next guess. However, I have not been able to link any of the incidences to one particular food.
Any ideas? If it happens again, I will have to go and get some tests done to make sure it's not a parasite or something worse.

I'd seek another doctor's advice.
I'm a pretty good teacher for someone who never studied teaching, but I can't say the same about giving you advice about your rectum.
Gang-ah-gee, can you offer her any advice here? |

Do you get enough fiber / roughage / veggies in your diet?
If no, that is probably your problem. It is the most common problem occuring to young expats (other than drunk and disorderly).
IF yes, then intestinal parasites, Colitis, Illitis, Spastic Bowel, Crohns, are all posibilities and require a proper diagnosis from an internist or a G.I. tract specialist. |

this could all be a little too much information....
it could be irritable bowel syndrome, which basically means that your gut gets sensitive to various foods and can react, or not, very randomly. i have ibs and i can go months without any...issues, shall we say, and then boom! it's like craptastic hell for a few days, weeks or months. basically i just make sure that i always know where the closest public toilet is. anything dairy can be problematic, as well as garlic, anything new or different, or spicy. i've found that my own cooking is (mostly) safe, whereas restaurant food can be dicey.
i think that ibs is what they call it when they can't really say why your gut acts up.
i feel your pain.

You think it might actually have more to do with your choice of music than anything? |

It could be caused by being in a stressful situation (job, financial issues, personal crisis), a sudden change in diet, overconsumption of alcohol or coffee, lack of proper nutrition in the diet ie. not enough fiber or protein, allergic reaction to a type of food, or something more serious.
Have you thoguht about what type of food you are eating. Check out the web for nutrition info and compare it to what you are eating. Too much spicy food, not enough food, etc.
Seeking help from another doctor may be the best answer. You don't want to take any chances with it being something serious. From my understanding medical visits in Korea are not that expensive compared to most western countries. |

Recurring diarrhea is also a common symptom of celiac sprue, which is intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats. It's a lifelong condition, but easy to treat by diet.
More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celiac
But yeah, it's time for you to see a doctor. |

I appreciate all of your ideas. I thought maybe it's IBS too. Can anyone recommend a doctor in Bundang? I live near Ori station but work in Jeongja. |

If you're willing to travel a bit, Asan Hospital near Jamsil station has an excellent international clinic that will escort you to any specialists if need be. The teachers in my area all use this hospital with no complaints and I believe the clinic is a tricare-approved one so is used by the USFK. |

We're only going to scare you more and more. Only a doctor can diagnose you properly.
Ulcerative colitis made me drop out of computer science in university. It took years but I brought it under control, and recovered my olden days alcohol tolerance.
Whatever it is, you'll live with it. |

AIGO...HIV if there's blood in the stool and at least 6 other symptoms that accompany the bloody stool....relax! Go see a Dr., and quickly. I'm living proof that IBS makes for a fun day at staff picnics. Here's hoping that's all it is. Take care! |

Actually, ulcerative colitis and probably Crohn's can cause bleeding too. |
