How can I find the board of education in my town, I've tried googling it with no luck.
I'm hoping to find a morning gig for a couple hours a morning WITH permission of my school so it's LEGAL!!! (Mod's, I said LEGAL!!!)
I'm hoping to talk to the local board of education for a couple hours in the morning, I've emailed a TON of recruiters with NO luck.... |

Aren't you quitting your job for a better one and trying to get a LOR??
Aren't you shopping for a cheap ticket to Canada (travel forum)?

Without knowing your city it is a little hard to answer your question.
You are aware that it is illegal for a public school teacher to take part-time work in the private sector.
You can also apply directly to the local schools. Get a friend/co-worker to assist you making a bilingual resume/cover letter. |

What are you stalking me Homer? WTF??
A) I asked about a ticket home, cause I was curious about prices to fly home.
B) I was trying to get an LOR from my school, but decided against the headache, as my school ISNT that bad, I just dont like my town.
C) Next time your sniffing around my underwear drawer, do me a favor and scrub the brown stains out for me with your toothbrush would ya?
I dont work at a public school, I was hoping they could help me find some extra work if I went to talk to them. Right now I work in a Hogwon in the afternoon..... |

The POE won't help you.
Go direct to the horse.
Get a friend/co-worker to assist you making a bilingual resume and cover letter then go to a few of the schools in your neighboorhood and drop them off.
That way you can choose the ages you want to teach. If you want kids, go to the elementary schools. If you want middle school then apply to them. If you want high school... get the picture.
The immigration office will let you grab to up 40 classes per week TOTAL between your two jobs.
It will also give you an "in" to the public system when your hakwon contract dies it's natural annual death and if the public school likes you, a job for as long as you want to stay.
You're gonna have to do some actual work. You won't be able to do this from your keyboard. It's gonna take some walking but there are tons of schools in every neighboorhood and most of the time the schools would love to see you, they just don't know how to find you. |

Ah, ok.....FINALLY a REAL answer!!
Thanks man! Ok, so I will need to A) get permission from my hogwon, incase they get wind of what i'm doing before I ask, and B) get someone to help me out with my resume, and cover letter in Korean.
Will high schools give me some morning classes I wonder.... |

All is well then Darkness...all is well.
Glad it is all working out for you but you did ask very similar questions about morning work before and I believe got very similar answers. However, glad this works out for you in your present situation...until the next change in the wind then! |

Wait until after the long weekend. I don't think anyone will be in the schools tomorrow. The staff in our school won't be back in the building until the 26th.
Look for the admin office. If you are lucky there will be someone in the admin office with basic English skills.
You can also ask for the "Ah hak shil". If they are working they will find someone who can communicate with you.
Last resort, ask your Korean friend if they can translate by telephone in a pinch. Call them and pass the phone back and forth. |

What does "ah hak shil" mean?
I dont know any Koreans really, except a co-worker dont know if she'll translate it for me. I was going to go to a translation office and get them to do up a cover letter for me, and to change my resume hopefully it doesnt cost too much.
I was planning on getting it changed to Korean this weekend, then go to the schools all dressed up next week, and drop the resume off.
I talked to my hogwon today and they said that they think most students study in the morning, but whatever, no harm in trying to get some extra hours.... |

Ah hak shil is the English room/language lab. If you drop a bilingual resume/cover letter in the admin office they will make sure it gets to the right place.
Make sure there is a professional appearance, passport style photo on your resume and clearly indicate your nationality.
Staff should all be back in the schools on the 26th. There may or may not be anyone (other than the caretaker) there next week. |
