I am going to be in Seoul March 3, and I want to make 2 purchases. a dvd recorder, and a new cell phone. For the phone, I need nothing fancy, all i want to do is text in Englkish and receive missed calls. No fancy camera, no internet, just a basic phone.

I have a land line, and the only reason I want a hand phone is God forbid I get lost, or I need a friend to help me out. I just need it for emergency. I have an old card phone that des not hold a charge, Can some one reccomend something cheap but decent, as I will not be making reg calls on it. The card phone runs out in 28 days, even if there is money on it. The money can be carried over tot he next month, but it stops working on the 29th day if udo not get it changed. I only put 10,000 won on at a time and it is always the right amount for me.

And as for ther DVD birner, I so not need great sound just some thing good and cheap. (yes I can get good and cheap. I did not say great and cheap, I said good and cheap.

Thanks a lot guys.

I have a cell(hand) phone. it is an old used one. It can text in English, but very slow. If you text a bit fast, you will cancel what you typed.
Also, if I miss a call, a message just comes on that says "missed message" and there is no way to get the message. If there is I can not figure it out, and neither can the shop.

I have to pay per month. I hardly use it. I pay 10,000 per month, and I have to pay once a month, or service gets cut off. When the month ends, even if I do not use all the money, the balance gets carried over, but iI still have to pay again. Also the charger works on a "maybe some time".

I do need the phone for emergency. I mostly use my land line, I have a cordless and that is great.

Thanks a lot. I just want a phone tht will text in English, and one that I can get a missed message, and an alarm.

Why not just buy a new or used battery for the old card phone you've already got? Make sure it hasn't been disconnected.

- This may not help you as I have an account phone, but I pay for a "missed call" service. In Korean it's called "Catchy Call" Service.
Think it's about 500 won a month. I don't know if you can get that service on a card phone. Do you have caller display?

- What provider is your cell phone with? Perhaps you could call them directly to inquire about a "missed call" service.

- If your phone is not charging properly, it could either be the battery or the actual charger cord. I have a newer phone but the charger crapped out recently, so I just went to the shop and bought a new one of those.

- If you only need your cell phone for texting and emergencies, then it may not be worth you going on to an account phone, because a monthly fee may be 10000won minimum anyway... you could get an "Ann" phone and text from your landline...

I had my hand phone looked at, and the battery is not working well, and the charger is not working. The service is with KTF.

I need a phone with an english menu. I will stick with the card phone I guess because I do use the phone only for emergencies.

I will have to check out how much it will cost to get this phone working again, and if it is not worth it I will get another one.

thank you all who answered.
