Valentine's Day wins Indian hearts

Florists are expecting to do record business.
Valentine's Day is now firmly established as a special date in India despite complaints from some radical religious groups that it is an affront to its tradition and culture.
Couples who are planning to go on Valentine's Day dates in some parts of India risk having their romance disrupted by religious radicals who are trying to prevent men and women meeting each other in public.
The right-wing Hindu organisation Bajrang Dal has said it will oppose Valentine's Day celebrations in Madhya Pradesh "tooth and nail", claiming the day reflects a Western phenomenon which is destroying Indian culture.
The group also encourages its members to burn Valentine's cards and members have put up billboard advertisements asking young lovers not to hold hands.

Would you be saying that on a day you have a sweet beau at your side who gave you some beautiful roses and chocolate? Of course, if you are single it is like putting salt on a wound for some. I am single (working on that), but I am going to get in the spirit and give some of my female co-workers chocolate. They know I am not hitting on them, just being a lovely dude:) that I am:) I don't need a special day to show someone that I care she can be this Charlie Brown's valentine any day of the year. |

I'm going with that one there.
I dislike holidays that require me to go out and buy something for someone else who really shouldn't be demanding I go out and buy them something in the first place. By the same token I don't expect gifts from other people.
I received an elaborate text message from my current squeeze. I can see it took some time and effort to arrange all those little heart icons around the letters. That's sweet. That's touching. That's enough!

No! In Korea only women give chocolates on Valentine's Day. You have to wait until White Day in March before you can give anything. |

Well, I am not Korean, and I am doing that for co-workers who work at a hagwon where we obviously teach English. So it makes to follow it this way. Anyway, I felt good giving my co-workers chocolate.
As far as Leslie, sorry thinking you might be a female, because the name is often used with females these days more than with males, though it used to be much more common to see males with that name. I am glad you got a great text message. Is your girl a K-girl?
I agree that being thought is more important that whatever material object someone may give, but let us face it people like getting presents in general. |
