Depends on your relationship with your boss.
Some post date and give in advance,
some give on your last day
some don't give and make you fight for it.
It is NOT required that they give it.
It is required if you want to work again before your visa expires or gets cancelled.
They are required to report the termination (material change in the matter) of your employment to immigration.

And the above is enough to cancel your visa so you can get a new one. I did it twice w/out getting a letter of release and was back at a new job w/ a new visa within 1 month both times. |

As usual, Tomplatz is right. They can sit down and type it up (it's only one or two sentences long) at any time they want to. The trick is to get them to DO it. That was my problem: the former boss had never heard of an LOR so didn't think I needed one. (If I haven't heard of one, then it doesn't exist. Sound like any posters here?)
I think they should use the Korean name for them, which of course I can't think of right now. It's just a letter saying you worked 'there' from X to Y date.
My advice: Grab your co-operating K-teacher and sit him/her down at the computer and plant yourself on said lap and don't let him/her up till he/she has written the darn thing.
Then give him/her a hug. |
