I'm a soon to be ESl teacher and over the past few months I decided to do some resreach, well a lot of resreach, anyway yesterday I decided to cast a line to test the waters by posting my resume on Daves. I checked my e-mail this morning and I got nine potential jobs. This is my first time out of the box and it seems a bit strange to me, so I was wondering if this was normal? Should I proceed with caution or jump right in?

You will get hammered with offers as you're posting right in the middle of hiring season.

I would say proceed with a large dose of caution, do not dive in until you can at least spell proceed and checked! Very Happy Sorry!

Check contracts thoroughly, ask questions on this and other forums and speak with current/past teachers at the school.

Good luck.

Hey dude!
Congrats on taking that first step. I'd recommend doing a little research behind the 9 potential jobs and if possible, get an interview so that you can know a little more about it (not just what the interviewer says, but also his tone of voice and such)

I received a list of potential jobs when I was looking, and I would filter them via the blacklist, previous posts on ESL about them, the hours n pay, reputation, etc...

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll proceed with cautious optimism and I'll learn how to spell correctly while I'm at it.

Very Happy

Are your offers from recruiters or directly from schools?

They were all recruiters, one included a contract. As I said this is my first time out of the gate and I wasn't expecting anything from schools themeselves, but it's nice to know that I have options.

I'd suggest you get a new email account just for applying for jobs, as you'll still be getting heaps of offers long after you've already got a job.

I second this. I still get emails two years later from recruiters.

Also most recruiters will try to pressure you into a job quickly. This is because you have a dollar sign on your forehead. You are their commission. Don't let them pressure you. If it comes down to it and they continue to pressure you tell them to **** off.

Do lots of research on the school and post the contract on here and let people review it for you. Don't get yourself stuck in a bad situation on your first contract.
