I've notice that most of the Korean recruiters boast of employers covering roundtrip airfare. Is this true? How do they usually handle this if you are coming from overseas? Question

It is true. They buy a ticket for you. I'd be weary of any place that made you buy the ticket with the promise of getting paid back. Also be weary of any place that wants you to fly over without a visa in your passport.

I believe the word you are looking for is wary. Weary means to be tired.

Very interesting to know. I've already turned down one offer after discovering in the "fine print" of the contract that I was indeed to pay for the flight initially. In particular, the contract explained that I would be reimbursed for 1/2 of the flight cost when I arrived, and the other half after six months of working there. I take it, then, this is not standard practice?

I've known people who've come over on the hagwon's dime and then have done midnight runs after a month or two, at times because the person simply wasn't cut out for teaching or missed home.

There are some decent legit small biz hagwons just trying to prevent another catastrophe.

In a hakwon I would insist on a prepaid ticket to Korea.

Public schools on the other hand usually re-imburse you within a week or so of your arrival for your inbound ticket (or inbound 1/2 of a return ticket). You get the return ticket or return 1/2 of a return ticket when your contract is completed.
