seems Anthony and Cleopatra weren't so purty after all |
Ummm...Cleo was (Macedonian) Greek. If you have ever been to Greece, you KNOW why the classical sculptors favored naked guys.
As for Cleo herself, if you were the product of a couple of centuries of in-breeding and your present husband was your younger half-brother, you might see why she would go for an over-the-hill foreigner like Julie ['Every wife's man and every man's wife!] and be DELIGHTED at a younger, more virile [and hetero] Antony. |

Yeah, I love that show too, and I for one am very glad they didn't make it too realistic. Who wants to see those two mugs bumping uglies? That'd be like seeing an asymmetrical Siamese twin make out with itself. |

I think you'll find that a lot of people's profiles on ancient coins look rather uninviting. I blame the coin crafters. The ancients put even more value on physical beauty than a modern day apgujeong princess does. There's no way they would have let themselves be ordered around by fuglies. Well...maybe the gypo's would. But how do you explain the seduction of Caesar and Antony? They both jeopardized their positions by having kids with a non-roman barbarian. There was not a lot of political advantage in aligning with a weak Egyptian queen (And she wasn't all Greek. She spoke Egyptian and her family had lived there for more than 300 years.) How could she have seduced two guys who could have had any woman in the world if her head was as charming as a pay toilet in a diarrea ward?

Great show!
When HBO make a good one they really make a good one! My wife loves it too! She just thinks it's amazing that men's tackle can be shown on a TV program!! Be sure to download an uncut version. The version they will show on Korean TV will have virtually all the sex and violence edited. |

Vorenus and Pullo are my favorites on the show. They are always finding themselves in tricky or bad situations but also seem to get out of them together. Vorenus' ability to redeem himself and his friend is great. Also Atia is a great character, her behind the scenes acts really show how a woman who would have had zero power in roman times could exercize a lot of power behind the scenes and through her son and lovers. The sets, casting and costumes are simply amazing too. Great show right up there with 24 and the Shield. |

Anybody here remember the portrait of Queen Elizabeth commissioned to Susan Ryder?
I think it was about ten years ago, and the Queen hated it because it was quite... er, realistic. She captured every wrinkle, and I can't seem to find it online. |

If you're looking for a spoiler, you need only to read about the life of "Augustus Caesar." |
