Memory Game:

1st Kid: "I have a Monkey"
2nd Kid: "I have a Monkey and a Zebra"
3rd Kid: "I have a Monkey and a Zebra and a Lion"
4th Kid: ....etc.

Round and round it goes. If a kid forgets something in the list, or hesitates too long they're out. The last kid is the winner.

My students love it.

The game i use to play was the aptly named "Sit Down" Game.

Dead set easy and no preparation is needed. And it works for all levels and ages, I mean I've played with my university students and they love.

The game goes likes. Get the students to stand up against the wall. Pick a category, colors, animals, food, etc.

Spout off assorted words in English and when students hear a vocab word from the chosen category they have to sit down as fast as they can. The last student to sit down is out.

I get the student who is out to help judge who was the last one to sit down, to keep them involved in the game, or for the more advanced students, they become the caller.

Keep playing until there is one person left.

Like I said its easy and no props are needed. Have fun with it.

I actually hope this helps out everyone in need of a good activity that lasts about 10-15 minutes. If you are really slack, you can make the game last half an hour if needed. For example the winner of the first game gets to choose the category for the next round.

Enjoy folks.

For kindergarden kids, almost any kind of BINGO: "colors bingo", "body bingo", "food bingo", "animals bingo"...

Just make grids - and draw (or find) pictures (eg: body bingo - ear, nose, eyes, ect...) make copies, cut them up - you can have each kid glue-stick pictures some pictures in different places on their grids (which for "colors bingo" can be simply the tic-tac-toe grid...) have a duplicate set of pictures that you call out one-at-a time, and the kids cover the matching picture on their grid with some kind of "marker" (cut-up colored poster board)

Or, you could just buy ready-made Bingo games (like I've done...) which are good even for older elementary kids...

There are some great card games you can get at Kyobo books (or Youngpoon or Kim & Johnsons ...) including Scholastic's "Go Fish" (great for learning the alphabet and asking "Do you have an "F"? - "No - Go fish!") and "Crazy Eights" (good category game for elementary and older kids...) - and even "Harry Potter UNO"...

If you have a computer/overhead projector set-up there are lots of learning games that can be downloaded (for like ten bucks...) including "I Spy Haunted Mansion" (for older kids...) and "I Spy Jr." and "Disney English" etc. for youngins...

I used a lot of music when I had kindy classes, and somehow I had an old Raffi cassette featuring "Do the Hokey-Pokey" which was great when he sang "Everybody circle to the left, to the left...Everybody circle to the right!" - and they'd be running into each other and falling all over the place (great fun!...)

Actually, I find high school teaching pretty boring compared to teaching younger kids. I had the kindergarden classes doing musical plays at presentations - using props and background music (eg: "1, 2, cha-cha-cha, 3,4 - cha-cha-cha...") And I used to have bowling, golf, basketball - and even baseball games - that could be set up in class, and kids would write down their scores (and learn some English expressions...) while having fun...

I've problably spent more on teaching materials out-of-my own pocket than most teachers, but it's always made classes more entertaining for me - as well as the kids - so I don't mind spending in that way (though I tend to be extravagant...)

Anyone know where to shop for books such as "How to teach children in Asian" and other teaching related books to aid me in bringing more to the classroom? What games are good for older elementary? Hangman and bingo are great for younger children, particularly Kindergarten, but older (10 to 13 years old) seem disinterested in anything.

I am also looking for English childrens music cassettes or Cd's. I believe music and art are some of the finer enriching aspects to add, but lack material, rather than just only speaking, reading, writing, and playing games.

I am in Changwon near Busan and will be going to Busan soon and then Seoul sometime this Spring for my first time and looking to shop, but first I need to learn where I should go.

I found a Kyobo bookstore in Changwon, but did not find any English material so I am guessing it's in the big city.

SHARK MAN !!!

( ummmm, pretty much just like hangman ... only you have a shark )

Believe it or not, it actually doesn't take much to sell em' on the amazing NOVELTY of this innovative game ( hehe ... )

Lotsa room for improv too! ( e.g. the SHARK is very hungry for Korean child meat! 3-5 wrong guesses, & it's dooooooooown the steps into the waiting water & ... YUM, CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP !!! )

i give my kids ONE point for a vowel ( 2 points for a consonant )
