Is there a limit on stuff (food primarily) other than perishables that I can bring into Korea. Obviously the airline has a limit. Does anyone know what the major airlines are that fly to Korea and what the limit is on baggage? Is Customs coming in gonna be like this major ordeal where they dismantle my meticulous packing job and tear apart every package I own?

Unless the sniffer dogs pick up on something, in which case you will get a big yellow lock on your bag, you will sail through customs without even slowing down, just pass the customs declaration on the run.

Prepackaged stuff is not a problem. You will NOT be legally allowed to bring any food products that are not processed/canned/vaccum packed.

Airlines are different when it comes to weight allowances. Check the airline's website for specifics on THEIR baggage allowance.

Typically it used to be 20kg per person on flights not originating in North America or 70 kilos for those flights to/from Canada.

It is changing now, for example Northwest now only allows 2 pieces with a combined total of less than 50kg in free baggage allowance. Singapore air allows 64 kilos.

I flew some major American airline. My max was 50lbs on each piece of luggage. I brought two suitcases, and was over that, so I paid a fee (25 bucks a piece).

I think on most flights from the U.S. the limit is 50 lbs. per suitcase and two suitcases. The carry-on weight limit is 20 lbs. I flew on Asiana and those were their restrictions, other airlines may vary but you can usually find out on their web sites. Asiana charged me $120 for an additional bag - totally worth it. They charged something ridiculous for going over the weight allotment so it cheaper to bring a third suitcase. I'm pretty sure my carry-on weighed more than 20 lbs. but they didn't ask to weigh it. I had packaged food in my carry-on and my suitcases and didn't have any problems with it.

If you use air compression bags for your clothes you'll probably have extra room left in your suitcase when you hit the 50 lb. limit. During a slow time a post office will usually be glad to weigh the packed bags for you (just tell them you need to mail it somewhere and you're weighing it ahead of time).

BTW, avoid going through LAX if at all possible. You will have stuff stolen from your bags if you go through there, courtesy of the TSA employees.
