I figure I'll take a break soon, for an indefinite amount of time, could be a month or more. I'm not sure where to go. Since I'm in Korea and like SE Asia I figure it will be down there. Maybe just go to Thailand, and elsewhere as I please. I'd like to visit the Philippines or Laos or... not sure. Everyone has opinions. Do not present them as facts. Just looking for an idea or two.

I was in Laos recently and I'd highly recommend it. It's even cheaper than Thailand and there's much less hassel from locals trying to milk tourists. The weather in winter is just perfect. When I was in Vientiane in January the daytime highs were 25 C and the nighttime lows 15. There's not as much to do or exciting things to see as in Thailand or Cambodia, but all in all it's just more relaxed and friendlier. I think it would be a great place just to kill time.

I'm hearing really good things about Myanmar, and am hoping to get there during my between-contracts vacation which is coming soon! Very Happy

How about India? Landscapes, architecture, food, film, clothes. Inexpensive.

I love island-hopping in the Philippines..

But your Laos or Myanmar idea both sound good. Those would be my personal two runner-up choices.

From the four countries we visited, Laos wins hands down. I could spend a long long time exploring that country. A month would be a dream.

I just got back from Thailand and Malaysia. Chiang Mai has a lot of the same appeal as Bangkok but without the sweltering weather and the chaos. And it's dirt-cheap. Malaysia's also worth considering. There's no language barrier to speak of, it's cheap, and the food's incredible. Kuala Lumpur is more expensive than it used to be, but there's a lot to see and do outside of the capital. Penang is an amazing place, and Malacca is well worth seeing.

Just booked a super deal (I think!) Incheon to Bankgok, then BKK to HCMC Vietnam and back for 650,000. Flights to BKK alone are about 500,000.

Vietnam is definately worth a gander.....been several times and never tired of it.

Great deals for flights within Thai using Asia Air.

Have fun Smile

Just got back today from Thailand and Laos. I LOVE Laos, Luang Prabang is really quaint, you can still get $10-15/nite guesthouses (we spurlged and paid $40 for a top of the line place) Just beware it IS chilly at nite in Luang this time of year so bring a jacket and some warm pjs. In Vientiane get the massage/sauna and so the BeerLao tour

Thailand we just turned off our brains and went to a place we've been going to for years on Samui. Some times you just got to go with tried and true

This summer I'm thinking of going by myself to Myanmar while the wife visits her mother, Rangoon is supposed to be really nice.

Next winter we are thinking of flying into Singapore and work our way up through Malaysia. we were watching this bike race on espn through malaysia last week and it looks scenic, just wonder what the weather is like this time of year, it looks like they get some of the rain that indonesia gets
