I was about to board the Thai Airways flight to Bangkok at Gimhae Airport (Busan) and they announced my name on the PA, I went to the counter, and they told me I was going to fly business class.

Been bumped up twice...once on Thai, once on Air China. Both times I had arrived at the check-in counter quite late and, so I guessed, they had over-booked economy.

Got to be careful as I have missed two other flights for being late!! It seems if you time it JUST right you might get bumped up.

Flying business rocks! (Never been first class: must be heaven.) The only problem is: its hard to go back to economy once you've flown it. Kind of like drinking a 30 year old whiskey compared to an 8 year...both will get you there but the journey is so much better with the former! Smile

Where are you going? Instead of hoping to get bumped up, check with your travel agent. You'd be surprised how cheap it is sometimes. With seat sales you might pay only a bit more than economy. The whole experience--lounges, extra baggage, super fast check in, etc--can be worth it.

Good luck.

for some reason this only works on American carriers
but a quick flash of the military I.D. and you've got a pretty good chance of either a free upgrade or free booze.

I've also missed a flight from LAX to Tokyo once due to a late connecting flight and after raising cane I got bumped to first class and a hotel room. Now that was nice.

I regularly get bumped up (at no cost or use of miles) but I have been a frequent flyer on a few airlines for a number of years.

Loyalty has it's privilages.

I got bumped up flying London to Hong Kong. It was great. Club class. Fully reclining bed as well as a meals served in 3 courses. I have also heard that wearing a suit can help you get bumped up.

I agree its hard to go back to economy and sharing an arm rest once you have had your own bed.

I got bumped up on my flight here from Chicago on Korean Air. I'm not sure how it happened actually other than just being super lucky but it was soooo nice. I don't think I could've handle the 14-hour flight otherwise. ^^

I got bumped up flying KLM from Calgary to Amsterdam. They overbooked economy and they asked if I would mind moving up to business class. The nerve of them. Business class would be nice flying back to Korea tomorrow morning.

Not getting bumped up, but bumped period from a Mexicana flight from Cancun to Mexico City. Not in a hurry to go home, we volunteered to give up our seats. They put us up in an all-inclusive resort on the beach in Cancun for the night. Nice.

I maintain a silver membership on Thai, and I usually get bumped from economy to premium economy. It really is much nicer.

I am flying the 18 hour flight from JFK to Bangkok on Monday, and have used frequent flier miles to go first class. 18 hours. Flat bed. I hope it will be worth the 80 thousand miles!!! Confused

I am sure I'll sleep my first two days in Bangkok, anyway.

I just smiled. Also, if the flight is canceled get in line behind an ***hole. Then be nice to the desk attendant and they will give you lots of free stuff.

Yeah, being nice when everyone around you is freaking out is always good- even if it doesn't get you perks- but it usually does.

I just arrived last night in Bangkok, and I must say, business class was grand. 18 hours is a very long time in coach. That being said, their "lie flat" seat is flat but deeply angled. I slept much better with it as a reclined seat, with the knee part bent, I didn't slide forward, and it was really comfy. The food was great- but I expect that on Thai.

By the way, the regular and premium coach on Thai are really nice, also. The have their long haul planes configured with less than the max number of seats, so there is good leg room. Even in coach you get really cutlery, cloth napkins and good food.

The legroom issue has always been a problem with me. Apparently the airlines are catching on to how important that is. I flew JetBlue to JFK, and there was great leg room in coach.

The reason is that the rest of us dont really look up to Military people. If you flew with the airline I used to work for and you flashed me a military badge, I would upgrade anyone else but you Twisted Evil
