On Soi 11, Sukhumvit.
And it really is cheap!
Interesting place to drink for an evening.

Yeah, I can relate.
I just got back from Australia and, man, what a drag. The Australians have so many rules for drinking and smoking it's insane. But I guess Canada and the U.S. are similar. I mean, they won't let you walk to certain places in the restaurant / bar with your drink because their license doesn't cover that part of the premises. So, a bouncer or server has to take your beer and bring it 10 feet to where you're sitting. It's insane.
Here's one more of Cheap Charlie's - I guess he's always watching.

In Canada, it is insane for smokers. While I don't smoke and agree to some extent to the new laws, I think it's gone too far.
As for drinking, I don't think it's as bad as what it seems to be in Australia from what you wrote. There may be some places that won't allow you to take your drink from one spot to another (who knows?), but I've never seen any neither heard of any. It's true that it depends a lot in which province one lives, though. I have relatives who live in New Brunswick and they can have a beer in their backyard but not in the front yard! Maybe it's not the province just the city but anyway it sucks. |
