I did it. I completed my obligatory year at a hagwon. March 2, I start at my new Uni job.
I'd kinda like to go to Thailand for a while, but Immi took my passport and won't give it back for 10 days. (Instead making me go on a visa run, they said that they would extend my visa and simply change my employer. Okay by me, cheaper anyway).
So what do I do for ten days? Elation and emptiness...anybody else in my boat? |

Busan.
The clerks were fighting over whether to let me do it that way. Don't count on having an easy time. I am still confused as to why I don't have to make a visa run and I'll have to wait and see until I get my passport back on the 28th.
Essentially, what they did was charge me for two things: $30 for extending my visa and $60 to change my workplace.

Immi took your passport for ten days?? WTF??? It takes like five minutes to get anew E2.
Busan immi is completely incompetent. Time and time again, they consistentl just screw things up. I'd call the US Embassy.
TEN DAYS????

Wouldn't be surprised if in ten days you went back and they couldn't find it. Next, the police report will show that someone used it to enter your country. It's a common scam. You are way stupid for leaving it w/ them! |

(Shrug) that's what it took to get my alien card last year. As long as I don't have to do anything else. I will consider myself fortunate.
But yes, Busan Immigration can be a real challenge.

If you were planning to leave the country anyway (Thailand), how is changing the E-2 cheaper? You could have gone to Thailand and picked up your new E-2 at the Korean embassy in Bangkok. |

Do you need a visa number to get an e2 in Bangkok or can you just fly over there with all the documents and get it done in a day or two?
I know when i got my c4 visa in Bangkok all i needed was my documents, photo, and copy of the signed contract.
I am not sure if the e2 can be done the same way. |
