Does anybody know if it possible to obtain a 3-MONTH TOURIST VISA for AMERICANS in ONE WORKING DAY at the FUKUOKA consulate? That is, drop it off sometime in the afternoon after lunch and pick it up before closing time at 5:00?
Ttompatz, you seem to be very knowledgable about this kind of thing, do you have any idea?
Thanks a bunch. |

I am a bit confused.... do Americans only get a 30 day tourist visa? I mean, don't you automatically get 90 days or so? |

That's right. Americans only get a 30 day tourist visa. For 90 days, they have to pay about $45 for the visa. It's called a C3. It has something to do with the fact that the USA makes it virtually impossible for Koreans to travel to the US, even just for touring. That's the Korean govt's revenge on all Americans. Give them a 30 day visa, while we will give the other countries anywhere from 90 days to 6 months. Just one more reason for Americans to hate their govt. |

Yeah, virtually impossible. No Koreans ever visit the USA. Give me a break. Yes, it is MORE difficult for Koreans to get tourist visas than it was in the past. Virtually impossible? Uh no. Thousands and thousands of Koreans will get visas to the USA this year- far more than the number of Americans visiting Korea.
What is the reason it's more difficult now? Is it because America is bad and another reason Americans should hate their government? Perhaps it is because a MASSIVE number of Koreans have abused their visas and stayed in America illegally over the last decade... |

If any of you have followed the news over the past year....it was pointed out the reason koreans do not get the special visa deal that other countries get....no reason for Americans to hate their senators, etc...it's the koreans fault. Prostitution. The U.S. Ambassador to korea pointed this out some months ago. For many many years, it was a known fact but not talked about as to not embarrass koreans. Too many korean hookers in the US of A. And that's a proven fact. The majority of koreans overstay their visit and that contributes to their rejection rate. Overstaying Americans, Canadians, etc. in korea? The opposite end of the scale.
I'd hate to see koreans given access to the U.S. like the Japanese, Canadians, Aussies, etc.......I guarantee one thing, if that was to happen, a few million koreans would be leaving korea and not returning.
I can see it now, a kim chee store on every corner, billboards plastered all over creation, and on and on.
And to answer the OP question....overnight is needed in Fukuoka. |

Why do it in Fukuoka? You can get the extension in Korea in about 10 minutes. |

I didn't know America had a problem with Korean prostitutes. Are you sure they were Korea, because as we all know in North America all Asians are labelled as Chinese.
That's a fact! |

Sorry I did not answer sooner but I was travelling and didn't have computer access.
To the best of my knowledge it is an overnight process to get a visa (C3) in Fukuoka.
The best source of processing time advice is call them on Tuesday.
proessing times are subject to change.
They may be able to give you same day service if you ask nicely (it has been know to happen for NON-working and non residencial visas.) |

Yes, Americans get a 30 day visa waiver stamp on arrival but can get a 90 day C3 visa if they apply when they are abroad.
Most other countries that have reciprocal visa waiver treaties with Korea get 90 days and Canadians get 6 months.
America is the only country that does NOT have a reciprocal visa waiver treaty and can still get entry without a visa (even if it is only 30 days).
The reason then don't get 90 day waivers is because there is no reciprocal waiver treaty. I won't get into the arguement as to why they can't come to an agreement and make a treaty. |

To qualify for the VWP, the INA specifies that a country must:
* Offer reciprocal privileges to U.S. citizens;
* Have had a nonimmigrant refusal rate of less than 3 percent;
* Certify that it issues, or will issue, machine-readable and biometric passports; and
* Not compromise law enforcement or U.S. security interests by its inclusion in the program. Countries can be terminated from the VWP if an emergency occurs that threatens U.S. security interests.
