God, I hate that.

I ordered chicken to be delivered. The delivery guy rings the doorbell and then opens the door. WTF is that?!? It's not my first experience with this kind of situation, but it just baffles me.

Is it because I'm a foreigner or is it just common practice? I've given people shit for it before, but I didn't get around to it today. Thinking of going to that restaurant and filing a complaint, but I don't want to look like an asshole.

I order food about 5 times a week and it's never happened to me. Is it always the same place that does it to you?

Word.

Lock your door.

Do you need a graduate degree to figure out this life problem?

PS: Keep your hands on the outside of your pants and it won't matter all that much if someone opens the door.

Or...if you're not into locking your door, you could always find another place to order from! Laughing

I usually lock my door and always check to see if I forgot to. This time, I forgot to. Later, I would've notice it wasn't locked and locked it. Is that so hard to understand? Grab a clue.

Doesn't negate the fact that he would've tried the handle on a locked door. This equally would've pissed me off. Don't ya think?

It's a violation of privacy. It matters if someone thinks they can just try and open my door. Whether I'm jerking off or praying to Allah.

In a similar case, the driver at my school came to my aparment once or twice quite a while ago, knocked and tried the handle immediately. Gave him shit for it, too. The door was locked, but either way the fact that's it's locked or not is not the issue. Arayo?

Might have to do with living in the boonies. Probably wouldn't happen too often in the big city.

No. The solution would be "DON'T TRY AND OPEN MY DOOR. IT'S MY PLACE!"

Door locked or not = Not issue

Is that simple enough for you to understand? I could draw a picture if you like.

hehehe...That's Korean "style". I have had peopletry to open my door, THEN knock. That's why I always make sure my door is locked. A closed door still means "come on in" unless it's locked.

I would doubt that. And I assure you it's not because you're a foreigner and they're aiming to disrespect you. I've lived only in Seoul, and this knock-and-then-burst-in routine used to happen so damn regularly that it slipped into the realm of all that stuff you don't even think to remark on, since it's just so common everyone's accustomed to it. I think either Qinella's the lucky exception or there has been a major change in Korea behaviour in recent years. I'm no longer in a position to say, though, as I've lived in houses for quite a few years and it's now impossible for them to do that. The New Routine: They have to ring the bell, I have to see who it is on the videophone, if I want to let them in I have to tell them to wait while I pen the dogs, and THEN I either go back inside & buzz them in or I walk down to the gate and deal with them there. No more bursting in and catching me half-nekkid. Had lots of landlords who liked to do that, too.

Okay, it's not a HUGE deal, but it irritates me. It happened to me all the time. The thing is, the people who've come to visit---not friends, but people affiliated with the school, or my neighbors, or delivery people---don't even attempt knocking first. They just shake the doorknob violently, pound on the door, shake the doorknob violently, pound on the door, and this goes on until I muster a 야! It was better last year, at the officetel, when I had a doorbell. Maybe closed doors are considered impolite or un-neighborly? I dunno . . .

Well, now I have a gate around my place, so I guess people can bang on it all they please.

Should have tried Bennigans. Laughing Oh, wait... it's not Korean food, and you will have to pay another 1,000 per meal.

It's Hoo La La Chicken. Not the best, but the only thing open. Spicied fried. Theirs, and others that are similar, are spicy to a fault. I've had much better bbq chicken in Korea. Better sauce. Can't say I won't order it again because choices are limited here. I usually get Napoli Chicken or go to a chicken hoff.

Even if it's locked, they come into our apartments. The janitor for our school has keys to our apartments and frequently walks in when we're sleeping, etc. He doesn't even bother to knock. It doesn't even help to complain to the school about it...he still does it as if there's nothing wrong with it at all. It annoys the hell out of all of us...but what do you do? They don't seem to believe in privacy in Korea, that's all.
