Do you know of anybody in this age group that has done it? He has a master's degree (not in English).

Tell him to go for it.

He might have a health checkup ready to prove he's in good health.

I came to Korea at age 60 and have worked to now - age 67. I have a dual major batchelors from a US school and a Canadian Law degree.

This year, two years after Korea's retirement age I was unable to get a renewal or a new University job. The national universities cannot hire anyone over 65. At least two interviews were cancelled on me when they looked carefully at my age.

In seven years I missed one day of classes from illness.

I dould have had several hagwon jobs but not I have grown to like my 4 month holidays.

Obviously not, given the post above, and I am 42 and just got one.

If you were prepared to jump from hagwon to hagwon you could have as many months holidays as you wanted at the end of the contract.

Can I ask what sort of position you are pursuing now, since the unis' seemed to have age restrictions? What would you suggest my uncle do to get a job?

Korea has been pretty good to me. I bought a retirement home last summer and I guess I'll retire.

After 4 years at the same university they said to me last year. Go home. I found one more year but that seems to be it.

I just can't bring myself to do 30 hours a week 12 months a year in a hagwon. If your uncle is willing to start there he might be able to find something better.

I have a Korean friend, chairman of the graduate business faculty at a major (government) Korean university who turns 65 this year. They are making him retire.

Its private schools or nothing it seems.
