Aren't you the one who complained about your son's treatment at a school in Gumi, in multiple posts. I remember he wasn't gettnig paid, his apartment had prblems and his boss was entering his apartment unannounced. You made tons of posts about it.
You couldn't get hin tio quit, either.
Anywho, correct me if I'm wrong, but how will others know about poor jobs unless people voice their complaints? |

I agree. But I suppose if McDonalds or Price Waterhouse or GM had a job complaint board like our job has, it would be the same sh*t. People love to whine, and where else do you get to do it like at ESLcafe?
(plus a lot of the people who are here were probably fired from McDonalds for incompetence, so it's even worse- forget the whiners- this board isn't real life) |

You're not allowed to whine here (belief of some, but not me).
If you have any problems with Korea, then you should go home (also a belief of some).
By the way, you must eat Korean food, and like it. |

I don't know if people are necessarily whining when they post here. Sure, there are tons of negative stuff but usually people are looking for some kind of advice to improve their situation. There are a few idle whiners though.
About the contract thing, a lot of complaints are about things that turned out to be different than what was stated in the contract. You can usually tell which posts are going to be about problems at work, there's no gun to your head either forcing you to read them. |

That's right, each and everyone signed a contract. No gun was pointed to my head. But, as soon as I arrived the schdule was changed. Now I'm working splits, something I didn't want! Also, there are no taxes, no medical and no pension monies taken from my pay.
Trouble with the taxman, no medical coverage and I'm not going to get the pension due to me. The thing that really pisses me off is the fact that when I take off, I Have to pay for my ticket home! I didn't break the contract, they did yet I'm the one who's paying in the end!

Have you had any other jobs? I'd say the complaining here is on par with what you will hear back home at the watering hole for 90% of jobs. I actually believe the complaining here is far less (and more legit) than what I heard on a daily basis in the teacher's lounge at the public high school I worked at back home. People everywhere complain about their jobs. It's what humans do. Get used to it or go find a nice ethereal planet where this doesn't happen. |

It depends on the complaint. I didn't realize it until I came to Korea but in our culture, we seem to relate to other people by finding shared complaints. It was a Korean friend who noticed this. She realized whenever two foreigners were on a subway, their topic of conversation was almost universally a complaint about Korea. I complain a lot to my whitey friends but I love it here as well.
Sometimes one complains here and finds out that your situation isn't so bad. Hopefully the others set you right.
Sometimes one complains and finds a solution that doesn't involve running on your contract.
But yes if your work situation is untenable and you complain and do nothing, well, okay. But I'm not sure I know too many people that stick out such a situation.

I have to say, your writing sucks ass. How did you a) get to be so old and not learn to write a coherent paragraph b) get to be an English teacher?
That complaint aside, I think the major complaints are not with the contract signed and ostensibly mutually agreed too but with the contract items the boss is trying to break.
Anyway, OP, can you give some concrete examples?
