We're moving on Friday within Seoul.

Can anyone recommend a company that will drop some boxes off with us on Tuesday and then help us move them on Friday from Haebangcheon to Itaewon?

Do you think we should go with a company that comes in and actually packs the stuff up for you or should we pack it ourselves in their containers?

Do you think places will be open tomorrow?

How can I find moving places if I speak minimal Korean?

Late last summer I posted this:

Quote:
I hired 현대 이사몰 and was impressed with their work. Three young guys with lots of muscles showed up 10 minutes early, worked quietly and efficiently for 2 hours, packing and loading my stuff. They had big yellow plastic baskets. The only thing they couldn't do themselves was disconnect the stove. The gas man had to come for that. Otherwise, they took my air con down off the wall, cleaned and scrubbed my refrigerator, dusted shelves as they went. They were not able to re-install the air con, but everything else was put back in place. ..

If you find yourself in need of professional movers, I don't think you can do better.

Here is their national number (the office will connect you to your local branch: 1566-0072
(web site: www.h24mall.co.kr)

If you just need boxes and want to do the packing yourself, go to a grocery store or post office and get boxes. If you want someone to do the work, call the company I suggested.

I've since moved and used them a second time. I will ALWAYS use them in the future, should the need arise. They have done a great job for me.

How muchee?

Do what I do. Search 'moving' Ya-ta Boy on this very site. It will produce this:

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=64457&highlight=moving

I've used this company twice and have been impressed with their professionalism, thoroughness and friendliness both times. The second time I asked one of the 3 (they seem to show up in teams of 3) to drive my car to my new home since I had no idea where I was going. No problemo.

The first group didn't stop for lunch. The second group did. I bought lunch (it IS expected).

I also gave a tip big enough to buy a sam-gyap-sal supper and soju for 3. I'd do that at home, too, if people told me to sit down and relax while they did ALL the work.

Judas! 900,000 won! That's almost three times what I've heard of people paying to move here!

Quotes for teacher-type amounts of stuff seem to be closer to 350,000 or 400,000. Unless it's gone up a lot more in two years.

What about moving from city to city? We're moving from Ulsan to Asan in a few days and for a lot of reasons, it's looking like it might make more sense for us to hire a guy with a truck rather than to send a bunch of boxes in the mail. Would they charge by kilometre, or by time spent?

Keep in mind that was paying for a 5 ton truck and moving from one end of the country to the other. It was half that when I moved a much shorter distance.

They quoted us 620,000 for packing, moving, unpacking including the ladder thing cos we live on the third floor. That's a 5 ton truck. The move is a ten minute drive within Seoul.

They don't come round and look at your stuff. They basically charge per truckload. If it doesn't fit in the truck, I'm going to burn it in the street.

Bit pricey but we have to move in three days. Doing it all ourselves while working would be chaos. Having them do everything from start to finish will be fun to watch and less hassle for us.

Nice we don't have to pick up the tab too...

You can rent a car or a van and move it yourself.

All you need is valid Korean / international license.

My last couple of moves have cost me less than 40,000 won using this rental car service.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip but that isn't all you need.

You also need a budget that places a premium on time over money. I made that decision long ago Cool

You can also buy the component parts of a TV and assemble it yourself, but who wants to?
