I'm going to Kyoto via Fukuoka in a couple of days. I already have accomodation booked, but what are some good places to see or good restaurants to go to? We are trying to do it on the cheap, so now high end Kobe beef for us. |

Try to pick up a sandwich or two from the many convenience stores for lunch or try Yoshinoya or Matsuya, both fast food Japanese style, for dinner and lunch. Never take a taxi. Try buying a rail pass. Use the Fukuoka downtown shuttle bus for 100 yen. Patronize outdoor food stalls. |

In Kyoto, Fushimi-Inari Taisha (endless pathways of red wooden torii) is definitely worth a visit, and I think it may be free. Wandering through the east area between some of the temples - i think the Lonely Planet calls it the Philosopher's walk- is also a nice no-cost activity. Not to mention, getting lost meandering through the back alleys. Have fun- we visited last August and loved it. |
