Classical conditioning tells us learning comes after a time. Only after multiple pairings of a reward or punishment does one learn the correct response. However there are examples called "one trial learning". Usually this involves things that make you very, very sick. Ever spend a night getting hammered on Jaggermeister, you puke your freakin' guts out, and then you can't even come near the stuff again?

That's one trial learning.

We tend to make rules or divine laws of nature based on a single incident. Sometimes we do this for fun. Sometimes we're quite serious. ("I'll never date a Nigerian man ever again!")

Mine is, never date a woman who appears to treat her dog better than most human beings. From that I also generalize never date a woman who clothes her dog.

Men who drive El Caminos are all bad.

You got any?

Not for me it's not.
I'm a slow learner.

Don't get really drunk, then light the wrong end of a cigarette and drag hard on it ...

If you are very hungry and run very fast from the living room to the kitchen when your mom says that supper is ready, you can fly. (Ignore the part about catching your foot in the throw rug.) I believed this for several weeks when I was 4.

I'm recovering from a violent twitch every time I hear a man with a low voice and a Kiwi accent.

The last seat on the subway will be the last to be occupied if it is next to a foreigner, on the condition that the foreigner is not sitting one seat removed from the end of the bench. In this case, the seat next to the railing and foreigner may be occupied before all other seats in the train have been taken. The law also only applies if the foreigner has been identified prior to sitting. In the case where this is not so, there is a 50/50 chance the Korean who sat down will change seats when another becomes immediately available.

I do that, but I'm not a woman, so I guess there's still a chance.

Why would I even consider a message board if I was sober?

Never accidentally see your grandmother naked when you are nine years old. Don't ask -- I'm still not over it.

those who think there are two kinds of people,

I've observed that when I leave early for work, I show up late. And when I leave a little bit late, I arrive five minutes early.
