I've met a few Koreans who are really successful, but they also come across as workaholics. Here are a few examples.
1. My old Tae Kwon Do teacher from the States.
- a full-time engineer
- owned a Tae Kwon Do school and had about 200 students
- taught Tae Kwon Do at four different colleges
2. My current boss
- is the director at a hogwon chain (Apparently, his hogwon is ranked #1 out of all the OSS schools.)
- owns and manages an expensive five-story apartment complex
3. Some nameless older woman I met at a party.
- owns one of the fanciest restaurants in Cheong-ju
- is a real estate agent
- is a professional artist
Have you met any really successful Koreans? If so, what did they do, or what didn't they do? |

| I think successful people anywhere get involved and aren't afraid to work hard. Their emphasis is on BEING successful. It is what drives them. Other people simply reach their level of incompetence at work, decide on enjoying whatever 'quality of life' they can get, and just...relax. No telling which is better. Different strokes for different folks, eh? Of course, then there are the victims, those people who have the world against them and can't succeed at anything because of..well...because of SOMETHING! It's never their fault, mind you. Those are the people I cannot work with. |
