I've been wondering if public schools offer jobs all year round or if they only come in March? I know it's the begining of the new school year so it only makes sense for them to hire teachers then .... but my contract ends at the end of June and I want to come back to get a job in a public school, so I'm just checking out my options. Are they available?

You get your act together now (because they don't in Korea), and you should still be able to land a public school job. There may be another heavy hiring time in August/September (I'm not too familiar with Korea, though this seems to be standard in other Asian countries), but I'd be willing to say that if you don't get on with it now, you'll be looking at a hakwon job.

(feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Not to worry.

Your contract ends in June.

That is about the time when the second big hiring season begins for the public schools (for the start-up in late August).

At the beginning of June, start looking for a new position and get that all lined up, finish up at your present job at the end of the month and then take July and most of August off lounging on a beach somewhere (or go back home for a visit).

Most PS *beep* now.

Some PS hire for the fall and some government sponsored programs (EPIK) recruit in the spring for fall placement in PS.

Its rare, but they also hire at other times. I started my PS gig July 1. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting one in late august/early september for sure though. Go to Thailand or Vietnam for a few months and come back to a sweet job

Me and my boyfriend got PS jobs here starting in october, so it can be done. The foreign teacher before me quit 2 months into his contract so they were quite keen to replace him ASAP.

I got my PS school job in Spetember, so it is possible.
Although, the peak hiring periods are March and August.

Ditto. I know of at least 15 or 20 people who got hired November 1st or so. The PS systems just created a whole bunch of new jobs, and not too suprisingly, they weren't too careful about hiring for those jobs. Alot of people got fired or quit. I'd be pretty sure you could find something June or July-ish.
