Can someone please tell me why the Ohio State Buckeyes will most likely be the number 1 team in the land when the new rankings come out, and not the Wisconsin Badgers?

I realize it doesn't mean squat right now, but it would be nice for recruiting to get your name up there right at the end of the year (but before 3 big games against OSU and MSU, maybe it would be a bad thing).

The Badgers have beaten #20 Marquette in Milwaukee (where they HATE UW), #2 Pitt, #5 Ohio State (rankings at the time of the game). Their losses came on South Padre to Missouri State by two about 3 months ago, and at #25 Indiana (who then hilariously stormed the court--things have changed in college basketball).

Sure, The Ohio State University has only lost to big dogs, but who the hell have they beaten? They've pissed away 3 big games this season, (UNC, Wisconsin, and Florida), and they were lucky to beat their only ranked team (at the time) by two at home. That formerly ranked team is now 6-6 in SEC play and totally mediocre.

OSU's 24 wins have largely come against the same mediocre Big Ten teams the Badgers have beaten. UW's 26 wins include high quality wins over now #5 Pitt, now #13 Marquette, and soon-to-be #1 OSU.

I think if the Badgers split the next two games with OSU, one at their house and one possibly in the Big Ten tourney, they'll keep their 1 seed. That's all I can ask for. It's been a great year.

Michigan in 2010 is going to be a monster.

Time-out curses only last that long right?

I agree.... wisconsin is the real deal.... Ohio State is so overrated... Watching them through the season Greg Oden is good but has nothing on Kevin Durrant from Texas..

I can only wish. Maybe the curse will come back since Webber is playing for the Pistons now.

Michigan will only get better if Amaker can start beating MSU out for the top recruits in Michigan.

Oh and I agree, Wisconsin should have the edge over Ohio State... and that has nothing to do with my wolverine ties.

heck it doesnt matter who's #1 now because we get to play this thing out in about 3 weeks.

we know both teams will be #1 or #2 seeds in the tournament, get to play the first 2 games close to home (Wisconsin in Chicago, Ohio St in Lexington) higher seed will play the midwest regional and lower will likely go east (UCLA will be #1 in the West, Fla #1 in the South)

Also on Sun we have a 1 vs 2

BTW: you can get the first 3 rounds of the tournament live online at ncaasports.com, best thing in online sports

Looks like those Badgers are overrated...

Sparty is finally good for something...

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Wisconsin's first taste of a No. 1 ranking turned sour Tuesday.

Even so, the Badgers made no excuses after falling 64-55 at Michigan State in their first game in school history as the top-ranked team in The Associated Press poll.

I've never really understood why some people get all wet pumping up their conferences...

Who gives a crap... I will forever hope that Ohio State and Michigan State crap out in every game they play...

Do I care is Purdue or Wisconsin are successful in something? not in the slightest...

And if Northwestern or Penn State are in the finals, why the hell would I want to cheer for them? They're rivals! Screw them.

Cheering for conferences is like being over-patriotic.... meaningless and annoying.

It was a hell of a game. Neitzel was driven in the 2nd half, Alando was almost shut out, and said it was the best defense he faced this season.

You still can't deny the body of work they've put forth this season. We're still #1 for the week! That means a 1 vs. 1 matchup on Sunday (Monday morning).

If anyone wants to watch it (at 6 am Monday morning), it should be on TVU player, channel 50082, like this one was, because it's a national ESPN broadcast. (If you've got TVUplayer installed, click this link tvu://50082 )

About conferences... because it gives you something to jaw about when your actual team sucks.

Most people outside of Michigan/OSU don't understand the meaning of the word rivalry.

And different conferences play different styles of ball and recruit talent from different parts of the country (generally), so there's regional pride as well...

I won't bet on who has the most, but I'll put money on the UNDER for ACC getting 8 bids.

Finally... anyone who calls it "U.S. university b-ball"... well, their opinion just doesn't count. No offense. If we're talking intramurals, which is what that sounds like, well then yeah, I can't really comment on who has the best conference, so I'll take your word that the ACC and SEC are tough. I should say though, that back in the day, my coed IM team won the school championship 3 of my 4 years there. I've got the T-shirts to prove it.

Obviously, you've never heard of Tobacco Road.
