I had to open a seperate account in my name and give the bank book and atm card to my employer, apperantly the school pays me in to that account and then my boss gives me my salary out of there.
i heard that this is actually not illegal and all after school program jobs make their employees do this, i think its crap though and something has to be illegal about this.

I can tell you exactly what's going on because the same thing happened to me last year. I had a second job with a public school and the recruiter set-up the same kind of "I'll take your bankbook info and do it for you...". Needless to say I felt very uneasy about it and after 4 days, I closed the account and gave the school my new account, bypassing the slimy recruiter. Here's what I found out:

You're actually getting paid a hell of a lot more than you realize. The recruiter is taking his cut and doesn't want you to find out how much he's @#$%#$% you on. In my case, I was paid 1.8mil. to work from 9-12 m-f. This seemed fine for a second job. But the ATM thing threw me off and after I changed it, I found out that I get paid 4ok won an hour. That's 2.88 for the month, netting the slimy recruiter more than his fair share, and for what?

Do what I did. Go directly to the school director (or the English teacher/assistant that you deal with at the school) and give her a copy of your ACTUAL bank info and tell her that your banking info has changed. Go into the bank that you opened the acct. with the recruiter at , tell them you want to close it. Show your ID card, passport, fill out some forms and you're done. Now, you're gonna have a pissed off recruiter because he's losing out on some big money if you pull this trick. The next month the recruiter got a hold of me and was asking furiously as to what I'd done, but I explained to him what I knew and that I did not feel comfortable with him taking 40% of my earnings for simply having introduced me to the school and going to immigration with me. So, I told him I'd pay him what I thought was fair, which was 200,000won a month for 3 months and 0 after that.

It worked for me, but mainly because the school loved me, so make sure the director isn't related to the recruiter or some other bizarre scheme.

Good Luck and hope this helps!

Yanis.

Change the PIN number on your account without telling your crooked boss. Better yet report your ATM card lost and get a new one with new PIN number.

Hopefully someone will deposits large amount of Korean won. Hopefully in Billions of won.

When your boss tries to take money out, he can't.

Check your account every day to see if a large amount of money has been deposited.

If it's in Billions of won. Take the money and run with it. It's your money in your account. Razz

It's OK, you're not the only dumb one, the people you "talk to" are also dumb.

It's not dumb.

It's stupid.

Stop it or else you'll deserve what ever you get (or don't end up getting).
