just out of curiousity, were you misled about your job by the teacher you replaced? if you've been following my weird saga, it turns out the same thing happened to the couple of teachers we replaced--- they didn't mention it at all, though. in fact, their recommendation was shining and spotless! even though they had already gone back to their home country (no boss looking over their shoulder).

call me naive, call me foolish, but i was hoping for a little more honesty. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

oh, well. it didn't kill me, did it? it's just a little annoyance.

i was "misled" on a grand scale.....by the other foreign teachers, one of whom received a 400,000 recruiting fee, and the school itself which gave me a new contract to sign on my first day that included teaching 2 hours on a saturday once a month, unpaid of course. god bless Jung Chul

There was an "overly rosey" pic painted by the local spineless kiss a$$ teacher who also forgot to leave out some small details like "um, the apts have no aircon are probably the size of your bathroom back home".

Twice... both schools turned out okay, but there were some important details that were left out by the people I replaced... like the fact that the cook at my current job uses my kitchen to cook the kindergarten lunch. I'm absolutely not okay with that, but there's really nowhere else for her to do it... but had I known beforehand, I wouldn't have signed the contract.

Hang on there a minute! You mean that she actually comes to your apartment, opens the door and cooks the kindy lunch...even when you're not there? IF that is indeed is the case well if it's not in the contract then you don't have to put up with that. I'd change the locks and tell them "No one goes in my apartment when I am not there. NO ONE! If you don't like it...I'm gone!"

I'm a big advocate of people picking their battles carefully...but this issue is one to go to war over. It's an invasion of privacy. I wouldn't want some stranger snooping through my stuff and reporting it back to the boss...because if you're not there, it's a safe bet that's what she's doing.

The teacher who hooked me up with my job was honest. Very Happy
I've had a few minor issues (as may be seen in another thread), but I think that just goes with the territory (hakwon). Overall, my boss treats me well, never gets angry at me about anything -- in fact he's very anti-confrontation. Also he always asks if I want to do an extra class on occasion -- it's always my choice even if it would still be under the contract hours!

Previous teacher basically said good kids, good boss, good town. I'd say that's about 99% accurate.

mine was very honest. The person who hired me too me to the apartment where I'd be staying at and explained what the likely realties for my gig would be.

In the end, the best decisions are made by going to the school and the community and making your own judgement call rather than relying on others.
