For the best prices on digital cameras and dSLR's, go to the shops located in Namdaemun... |

Canon A-series is really the best deal going for image quality, handling, features, build quality....unless you want to take a lot of indoor pictures w/o flash, in which case you sholuld consider the Fuji f30 or f31fd.
If you get the Canon A630, you may cr@p your pants when see how great the pictures are. Believe me. Solid, sharp, functional.... I've owned many cameras (and used to sell them). For compacts, Canon is the best, and their A630/640 are incredible.
ps. I own Nikon (dslr), 3 Canon compacts (A95, A640, Ixus55), Sony DSC-R1, Fuji F-31fd, and I recently owned and gave away a Pentax W10 and Fuji F30. I'm not a devote of any particular brand. My favorite compact is the A640. The A630 is the same but has fewer MP. |

yeah... thought you knew but were keeping quiet.
Er... well there are two types of dica you can buy in this city. One is the legit deal with a warranty and all the trimmings. They're more expensive. The others, commonly found down in Namdaemun, are sold sans warranty and you can also, I've heard, pic up showroom models with little other than perhaps a paper bag to take it away in. The cameras without warranties are actually not meant to be sold in Korea though I forget why etc. Bit of a black market thing...
Hence the price differences... |

Yup...I was fully aware of that. I saved a lot by buying a grey market model from Japan. |

Many of the stores listed on Omi and Danawa, particularly the Gmarket shops, are Namdaemun grey market stores. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It saves you from hauling yourself to Namdaemun. But don't expect a warranty or, in my case with my Canon S2IS, documentation that isn't in Japanese. |

Ok, here's something a Korean co-worker (gear-head/photo-degree/Canon-owner guy) said. Canon grey market (ie. no warranty stuff) will be fixed by Canon Korea Warranty Service depots, for a +10% surcharge. That is, if a repair would cost $X without any warranty, a Canon Japan grey-market unit would be fixed for 10% of the full repair cost.
I don't know if this is true, but that is what this guy swears is true. |

When you arrive at the complex go up the esculators on the left... the entrance is on left..
There all in the main entrance... same level as subway... next to Baskin Robbins... lots of stalls there... |
