Or are they?

Soldiers Face Neglect, Frustration At Army's Top Medical Facility
Behind the door of Army Spec. Jeremy Duncan's room, part of the wall is torn and hangs in the air, weighted down with black mold. When the wounded combat engineer stands in his shower and looks up, he can see the bathtub on the floor above through a rotted hole. The entire building, constructed between the world wars, often smells like greasy carry-out. Signs of neglect are everywhere: mouse droppings, belly-up cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses. |

Republicans should be proud... disgusting..
| Quote: |
And I quote Robert Novak, one of the most conservative Republican columnists in existence:
[T]he House Republican leadership had removed [GOP] Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey as chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. The extraordinary purge buttressed the growing impression of arrogance as Republicans enter their second decade of power in the House.
The party's House leaders purportedly removed Smith, a tireless promoter of spending for veterans, to save money....
The leadership's problem with Smith has been his insatiable desire to make life better for veterans during 24 years on the Veterans Affairs committee (six years as vice chairman, four years as chairman). |

Hypocrites
The problems described have been present during and since the Vietnam War. Where was all this concern during the Democratic administrations? Why now? Has the bash Republicans election bandwagon started to roll already? It is totally unfair to lay all the blame on the present administration (and I am not a fan of the current administration), without at least noting, by name, the previous Democratic (and Republican) administrations that also turned a blind eye.
The articles claim that the current administration let the service members down and/or didn't fulfill their promises. Newsflash! The events described have been the status quo for 40+ years. Service members were let down waaaaayyyy before the current war. They have been let down by every president and congress for the past 47 years!
Now before all the pathological Bushee haters start, let me say I am NOT a Bush fan. But, as someone who has spent time in a military hospital, when the "I feel your pain" Democrats were in power, I call BS on those career bureaucrats and those in power during previous administrations AND THE MEDIA who claim they didn't know about the conditions in military and VA hospitals or say the overall situation described is new and/or heretofore unknown. Numerous reports by the DOD, GAO and the media, starting decades ago, highlighted the bureaucratic bungling and shoddy treatment service members receive in hospitals. They knew, they just didn't give a crap, in my opinion. Heck, they even made a couple of movies about it 20 years ago. Even friggin' Hollywood knew about it! Again, I ask "Where was all this friggin' concern 10, 20, 30, or 40 years ago?" Where was all this righteous indignation before they were looking to bash Republicans? Hypocrites. |

First, it is childish and churlish to insult people for paying attention to a problem that needs addressing. Now, if *I* had poo-pooed this issue in the past, you'd have a point, but I have not. It is highlighted now because of the massive numbers of injured vets coming in. It is a bigger issue at teh moment, and is completely at odds with the administrations hypocritical bullshit lies.
Sorry if it offends you that people are payin attention because it's now in the news. And if you think the media is Democrat, you're in need of meds for your delusions.
Jesus...why the hell wouldn't you be GLAD of the interest? GOP hack or what? |

It is obvious from your response that reading comprehension is a weakness of yours. Why did you feel the need to insult me?
It is you sir who started the party identification with the problem BS. I corrected it. If you had taken the time to actually comprehend what I was saying/writing you would have understood that I am calling those in the government, Democrat/Republican - civilian/military/bureaucrat/politician for the last 40 years hypocrites. Did I ever mention you in my response? No I didn't. For you to see yourself in my response says more about you than it does me. You quoted my first 2 or 3 sentences. Why didn't you quote the whole paragraph? Maybe it is because I bash both Democrats and Republicans.
Of course this problem needs to be addressed, my point, and I am typing slowly here so that even you can understand, is that the reaction of the media and government - who have known about this issue for years - is hypocritical. The article I was addressing leaves the impression that this is a recent problem being the total fault of the current administration - it isn't. Only a childish liberal lemming wouldn't understand this point. (Hey, you started the insults - I am merely responding in kind)
Did I ever mention that I didn't think it was a good thing that there is, finally, attention being paid to the problem? No I didn't. In fact I think it is great. However, I will call a spade a spade and point fingers at those claiming prior ignorance of the issue - Democrat or Republican. I will also question the timing of an expose on a problem existing just a few blocks from the newspaper offices. If a problem exists for decades and it just brought to light during an election season I question the motivation - regardless of which party is in power and which party is the challenger. That is what I am saying. Don't put words in my mouth in a worn out effort to label me. Oh and after you start taking your meds you might want to actually read some objective research on the percentage of those in the media who are registered Democrats versus Republicans versus Independents. It might pop that little bubble you live in.
It is obvious you are incapable of seeing any issue as anything other than pro-Bush/Republican vs. anti-Bush/Republican. Truly sad, really.
Happy New Year. |

1. You made it a point to emphasize the "Bushee haters" and Democrats, so you're full of it. Since we have the same point of view with regard to their care, it's sad you had to attack with your post.
2. You clearly labeled the media as Dem/lib., which is a long-discounted canard. The Writers you try to lay the blame on do not set the agenda nor decide what goes to print.
Your post was insulting, churlish, childish and wrong. And, most of all, sad: be glad attention is being given rather than insulting people for paying attention. And the Reps are surely NOT paying ANY attention: they canned the committee chair who worked for the vets.

Your response shows that it is obvious we are "talking past" each other. Which, in my opinion, stems from your unwillingness or inability to understand my main point. Why? I don't know, maybe you have ideological blinders firmly in place that mandate you assume attack mode whenever someone tries to show that responsibility for the current state of affairs should be shared by more than just the current administration. Or, I have to remember my audience, stop making assumptions about the reader, and maybe explain myself more clearly to the obviously challenged amongst us. I don't know and, at this point, I don't care. You apparently believe I am insulting people for paying attention - I am not. Your attempts to "read between the lines," and say I claimed something that I clearly did not, are tiresome. Your habit of taking a couple of words from a sentence or maybe one sentence from a paragraph in order to concoct evidence of some imagined insult is becoming even more tiresome. Have you ever thought of becoming a fundamentalist Christian preacher? I hear they are in need of people with the special talents you so aptly display.
If you are really interested in this topic, I recommend you read the GAO reports to Congress in 1987 and 1991. They say pretty much the same thing the WP article stated. They were discussed in open hearings and reported in the media. My question is "Where was the concern for our service members then?" It is great that action finally seems to be being taken. However, if you are going to hold the current administration accountable (which it should be), the accountability for the mess today must also be shared by those in the 80's and 90's. From my reading some of the same people in government and the media shouting the loudest now, were ominously quiet then - therefore they are hypocrites. Period.
In any event, I am through with this.
Have a great week.

CYA, nothing more. Despite seven years of GOP control you emphasized the Democrat's lack of attention despite the preceeding fact and the fact that it is now the Democrats trying to do something about the conditions - at home and abroad.
Your original post was poorly written and conceived. |
