I use Ad-Aware, and V3.

Ad-Aware is pretty good.
V3 sucks butt.

What is the best FREE, and I mean totally FREEE, not just for thirty days, virus scanning software available online?

I know there are a bunch that give you a trial offer.....and I know there are bunch, but I have tried a few, and they SUCK.

Anyone?

Try AVG. Just google it and go from there, totally free and has worked for me so far. Don't know any more technical details Smile I was advised by a much more savvy friend to use it and it works.

I am more of a fan of avast!

I have run both AVG and Avast, and Avast has a firewall and cleans the viruses better, IMHO.

www.avast.com

Look for the free home edition

I just starting using avast... new lappy with vista, and my old standby antivir isnt vista compliant yet. I used antivir for several years with no issues, great free antivirus. So far, so good with avast free home edition though.

Free spyware choices of mine are adaware/ spyware blaster/ spyware search and destroy.

Just be aware that having multiple antivirus software packages (antivirus, not antispyware) installed at the same time can be very problematic, to the point of borking your rig so hard you have to reformat. They detect each other as intruders, try to resolve non-existant issues, lockups, reboots, and can just end up being a really big mess.

Damn. Had no idea. Thanks. Guess I will have to choose the top three, or at least the ones that allow me to configure access and allowwance.

I find that Avast is better than AVG. Mabye my system is very secure but using AVG, I have never detected any viruses, trojans or worms and this is with both the pro and free versions. Both are miles better than McAfee or Norton.

I had a brush with avast didn't like it at all. When it detected a virus it couldn't remove it whilest AVG could..

I don't even run a antivirus on my laptop. Not a single virus prob yet.

I don't download untrusted software. Best anti-virus is "you"

Avast does one "boot scan" the first time you run it (in case you tell it not to).

This is very important, because it kills boot viruses before windows gets a chance to load.

I have used Avast for over 3 years.

I recently went back to Avast, after using AVG for about 6 months. The reason for the switch was that when AVG does find something, it isn't good at getting rid of it. Often, you are referred to their website, where you must download additional software to finish the job. I didn't like that.
