I have to pay for my own visa run and flights to Japan are booked solid. So, I decided to go to Taiwan instead. Does anyone know if there is a Korean consulate in Taipei? I searched on the internet and could not find it. Does it exist?
Please get back to me. I don't want to book the ticket then find out I went there for nothing. |

Taiwan has a diplomatic mission from Korea, but it is not a consulate since that would imply Korea recognizes Taipei as the legitimate government of China, which would seriously piss off Beijing. I'm not sure if you can get visas there or not. Maybe you can call them.
As for paying for visa runs, sometimes it is necessary. For example, if you work at a university, you are usually 100% responsible for everything related to your visas, which includes paying for visas and visa runs. |

Someone beat me to the punch with the address. It seems like maybe you should head to China instead especially if Taiwan's Korean Representative doesn't do visas. Or if you are in Korea, hope on a ferry and head to Fukuokoa....
Edit: I did find this link http://www.mofat.go.kr/ee/ee_a001/ee_twtw/ee_jpjp01.jsp
This seems to be the official website for the Korean Mission in Taipai...
Good luck...

Since Taiwan isn't a recognized independent nation, there isn't a Korean Embassy, but a Consulate. Basically it performs the same functions as an embassy. I've been to the Korean Consulate and they issue visas and since you gotta pay for it, Taiwan is a cheap route to go. I don't know anything about the visa process or length of time. |

They do visas, but they take longer than in Japan... three days or something. |

Have to pay your own visa run??? geez... you're going to Taiwan. Why dont you just get a job teaching English there and not go back to Korea. |

They were issuing visas there in the summer of '95. Somehow I don't think that information is current enough to be reliable. |

I called the Korean Embassy in Taipei today to get more info, as I also need to do that darn visa run and Taipei would be an option for me.
The visa costs 1500 NT (around 50 USD) and takes 3 business days to process. The guy on the phone was nice and spoke good English. |
