a teacher friend of mine eats A LOT of fruit especially mandarines. She has eaten so many mandarines that both sides of her hands have become noticeably orange. Her fair complexion makes her hands even more striking. Does this pose any health risk to her?!

Dude - did you see what happened to Violet Beauregard? If they were Wonka oranges you might have a problem!

Otherwise, I dunno - either the hands are stained from orange peels or maybe she has developed an allergy.

I have noooo medical training.

Her hands are probably just stained from the rind/peel. I have relatively long fingernails, and I have a problem with them turning orange if I'm not careful, even after eating only one.

But on the plus side, no scurvy for her!!

nah i checked it out on the web, she most probably has carotenodermia/carotenaemia, harmless condition from too much beta carotene consumption... her hands look a bit freaky though

I had that when I was a baby! My wee nose turned orange.

One of my students has very yellow hands. They are very yellow on the palm side of his hands. I was thinking maybe he had hepititis or something.

you can't get carotonesis from oranges, there simply isn't enough beta carotene. THe cause is more than likely the orange peels.

There is a link between mental illness and orange hands. A little known fact and I know sometimes hard to believe. Did you know that Ted Bundy had noticeable orange hands, indeed it was presented in court as part of the evidence against him. Indeed Ted's lawyers had great difficulty in getting him oranges whilst in prison. The excess of oranges in the diet causes a hormonal imbalance in the blood causing severe mood swings and possible psychopathic tendencies.

I had the same problem, but it was more from cheetos and raw tang powder!

Are you sure she's not painting them orange on purpose? There is a thing here about doing that to indicate you are looking for a guy.

ANybody see the House episode where the guy who has turned orange comes into the clinic? He's there about back spasms, but House advises him that his wife is having an affair because she hasn't mentioned that he's turned orange. Then he advises him to lay off the carrot juice and multivitamins.

I have a number of students with orange palms. I asked them about it and they said "teacher, lotion!" I assumed it was from making kimchi.
