Has Kung Fu evolved or changed in the past 30 years?
I'm going to start Kung Fu in a few months and I've only taken Tang Soo Do (when I was a kid), which is a different style of Tae Kwon Do I believe...so I don't know much about it...

Thanks for your replies. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Kung Fu schools in Seoul?
Edit: Just got back from a TaeKwon do school down the street and the KwanJangNim said that Tang Soo do and TaeKwon do are basically the same... |

For all-around skill and determination, Bruce, hands down.
Jackie Chan is and was more of a performer, and he'd be the first to admit it.
Jet Li is deadly in real life, but if you want to know who the real master is?
Judo Gene Lebell. Sparred with Bruce and famously choked out a very full-of-himself Steven Seagal some time ago. Here's the link:

I've looked into the local Wushu, but their skill level must be very low because I didn't see anyone floating through the air, jumping onto sword blades, or punching holes through solid brick walls. There are no Jet Li's here.
Bruce Lee created his own martial art. He's legendary. Jackie Chan had plastic surgery to look better on screen.

Technically wushu has come to refer to the performance and acrobatic oriented Chinese martial arts. If one does not include sanda/sanshou into modern wushu it is generally only good for looking good and offers very little practical techniques.
KungFu is the more "traditional" Chinese martial arts and are supposed to still contain practical techniques but most have been watered down to little more than modern wuhsu. A real kungfu school is a rare thing.
So not all wushu schools are kungfu schools but some kungfu schools may really be wushu schools.

Bolo was a champion bodybuilder who supposedly got a black belt in Shotokan Karate later on, and Bruce was instrumental in getting him in the movies.
Bruce studied Wing Chun in his youth, this much is true, but he later incorporated facets of a dozen or more fighting styles. You can see Brandon Lee give a 'tribute' to Wing Chun near the end of the movie "Rapid Fire". Pretty cool when seen on the big screen. |

You are looking for an alternative, yeah? Tai Chi makes molehills out of mountains. The aggression inherent in the other fighting arts makes for a lot of bustle and sweat. How often will you really use it? Tai Chi will re-establish your spiritual centre and clear up your cravings. I've been sweeping the cobwebs away with Tai Chi for over six months now, and I've learned that I won't ever need another exercise regime or martial art practice routine. I practised Jiu jitsu for a year and it taught me how to fall down. Tai Chi helps you find ways to avoid falling down. |

| Thanks for the input skinhead, I'm checking out Jeet kune Do at Straight Blast Gym with a guy named John F. ...talked to him on the phone today - he's more into Brazillian Capoeira (I think that's what he called it)right now, but he's going to recommend me some people that still do JKD and then I'll transition into Capoeira. |
