The boss of a hogwan is a director - you address them as wangjangnim, but a hogwan isn't a school as such.

So the question is; at a school with a principal do you address the boss as wangjangnim or is it something different?

Because you are the foreign teacher, they would not mind you adressing them by Mr. (family name). In Korean though, the proper term is GyoJang Seonsaeng nim.

I call my boss by his "given" English name. It's funny because a lot of time when I ask my students something like "Where's so and so?" and they're like "Huh? Who?" I think they get a kick out of me calling him by his English first name and they start referring to him as the same. Sometimes. I think I've even heard someone jokingly call me "wonjangnim" recently.

That's the beauty of having a situation when you're like you're your own boss.

I would never call anyone wonjangnim. Not in the ESL industry. "Mister" is good.
