Beaver is spotted in New York City for the first time in 2 centuries
Fri Feb 23, 1:02 PM

NEW YORK (AP) - Beavers grace New York City's official seal. But the industrious rodents haven't been spotted there for perhaps 200 years - until this week.

Biologists videotaped a beaver swimming up the Bronx River on Wednesday. Its twig-and-mud lodge had been spotted earlier on the river bank, but the tape confirmed the presence of the animal.

"It had to happen because beaver populations are expanding, and their habitats are shrinking," said Dietland Muller-Schwarze, a beaver expert at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. "We're probably going to see more of them."

Haven't you been to Times Square? They used to have plenty of beaver there until that damn Giuliani and his morality squadsturned it into Disney North.

As the guy in the Molson commercial says, "The Beaver is a Noble Animal". I think some of you were thinking of a woman's body part:) Sorry to disappoint you, lads. I happen to like beavers, because they are builders. People who build something or create something, I take my hat off for them:) At least, you guys have a sense of humour, those of you who responded to this thread.

As a solid Canadian I am proud to have the beaver as my national animal, however they are very stupid, the most common cause of beaver death is falling trees.

This is the first time I have seen you expressing any interest in the beaver.

Well done.

They smell funny and look weird, but I have been known to hunt them after a few drinks and encourgement from other like minded individuals.
