I'd like to find an easy-to-use software to edit videos. It's got to be easy because I don't know much (do I know anything?) about video editing.
I use a USB adapter to download from my Hi8 camcorder into my computer. There was an almost useless software that came with the USB adapter when I bought it a few years ago, but there isn't much editing I can do with it.
I guess I could use the Windows Media Encoder that comes with Windows XP, but my XP is in Korean; therfore, my Windows Media Encoder is also in Korean. Also, I often encounter the problem that when I want to download something, because my version of XP is in Korean, I can't seem to download anything else than the Korean version of the software I want to download.
So, any suggestions for an English video editing software? |

You should find that the sotfware you are downloading is showing Korean only because your Windows is Korea. If you can find the preferences in that software you should be able to swith to English.
I've used a few video editing programs. Like yourself, I don't do it to a very high level. Just a bit of cutting and then transferring to DVD-R. After trying Roxio, Muvee and Windows Movie Maker, I decided to go with Nero. You can download Nero Premium in English no problem. |

| I haven't tried it, but Jahshaka is an open-source (re: free) video editor. You may want to try that out - if you do, please report back and let us know. |

I kind of like Sony Vegas these days. Once you learn it, it's really fast. A lot of built-in effects, too, and multiple ways of export. I use it for HDTV editing.
Works for standard def. too. |

You were right. I tried every single option from the menu bar until I finally got the language selection. I already had an older version of Nero that came with my computer when I bought it, so I'll give it a try.
As for Jahshaka , my computer froze when I downloaded it. I don't know if it's because of Jahshaka, their website or the fact that I was running other things at the same time, but I'll use Nero before trying again to download Jahshaka . |

well to be honest, I think for a newbie Adobe Premiere Elements is the best all round package. Worth paying for. I used Windows Movie Maker for years and it isn't bad but it has one or two glitches that make doing anything swish difficult. If you want a simple editor that is very very easy to use and free then go for WMM. You can download the English edition for free at Msofts website. |

Where did you find this adapter? My camcorder has just the regular audio/video cable....is there a usb adapter that will connect to that one?

| I just got a Lumix digicam here in Korea but the software is in Japanese, i think, it installed but it's mostly / marks and some jap.. How can I get english software to use w/ it. |

Adobe Premiere is both a good package for beginners and scales up well for professionals too. When I worked in small production house in my hometown, that's what I used. We were using a top-flight video card/3d card with it though. It was very easy to learn, and had a lot of extensibility (if that's the right word for it). I can whole-heartedly recommend Adobe Premiere, for both beginners and for light professional work.

note the model number and visit the manufacturers web site to download drivers etc...
is it a still camera? you don't need to install anything, just get a card reader and drag and drop your files. |

Well, maybe you're right... I was a profesional camera/lighting/editing dude... but it isn't that bad, is it? Maybe I was taking a lot of my background knowledge for granted. |

I got into premier after using photoshop for ages and was mystified. I was familiar with pinnacle studio, but not satisified with it. The problem I have with adobe is that the interface is not intuitive at all. However after doing the total training videos for premier I'm confident in doing what I need out of it. |
