Is it just me, or is the spirit of adventure dead? Seems like there are so many people who come to Korea, but dont want themselves or other expats to surprise the locals or stand out in any way; so they carefully and meticulously follow social mores, and expect others to do so. Its almost boring.

In the past six months or so, we have seen posters wagging their little fingers and tut-tut-tutting other expats for stepping out of their apartments and chatting to Korean women in bars, or using their talents to perform a light-hearted stage play. Then, when racist thugs gang up on you and put you in hospital, or the local constabulary put you aside for questioning and use their personal opinions as a pretense for criminal convictions, you were obviously asking for it.

Whatever happened to the days of just doing it?

I guess I will be seen as some kind of Evil Western Imperialist for saying this, but Im sure that more than a few people here can agree that some of the lecturing is a bit too much.

Adventure is truly dead. We want imitation, conformity, and the tightest possible boundaries all the while pretending that we are exploring the world.

Note: This post is a parody.

Yes, in most cases, it is just you.

Wow...you are so nasty. Laughing Some attempt at revenge for my callous thoughts on the Busan 9, I guess.

I'm happy to allow myself to be contradictory at times, permit myself to change and admit I've said some pretty sill things on the board. I'm very, very human...and I embrace my imperfections.

Now, barking mad guy...keep trying to dig up embarrassment, but I tell you...I am very aware of what I have posted, as are most people here. Many people just skim over my posts, some people read them and some take exception at them. I am not really concerned in any event.

At least I don't make a sock to hide from myself.

Fight the good fight big guy.

I can accept that your opinions may change from time to time, so long as you can accept that your opinions today may not be your opinions tomorrow. Personal experience will ultimately be the test of that, and any cynicism towards your views is certainly no less healthy than any cynicism towards the Busan 9.

And BTW, I only have one identity here. Laughing
