|
|
I have 59 days to go on my contract (yes, I'm counting!!!) and I have a feeling I might get shafted by my boss.
I'm not sure at the moment but I think he's trying to collect evidence to fire me, for example, he photocopied some lines I made kids in class write for not doing their homework numerous times, he doesn't like us discipling kids but expects us to teach them (don't ask me how).
We have two teachers arriving in a couple of weeks but we actually only have space for one of them (they are a couple who have worked at this hagwon before) ....unless of course, I get fired.
I actually haven't done anything wrong but if he did fire me at this point what do you think of my chances of getting my severence pay and airfare? I'm can't be sure he's really going to fire me but I just wanted to see how I would fare with the labour board.
What do you guys think? |

Tell him you're going to call the tax office. That always works. |

Just ask him, "Are you going to fire me to try to get out of paying my severence and hire the couple? I haven't done anything wrong."
That's pretty much what I'd do. Why sit around and wonder? |

collect the parent's phone numbers from the kids and if you have a korean friend, or whatnot, start calling them about how crappy the hagwon is, etc. |

Why would you try to give them a reason to fire you?
You don't seem to be very smart!
The OP should not worry at this point until he/she receives a 30 day notice. They must pay you for those 30 days. Do not leave before the 30 days have expired if you get the notice. The Labor law will back you but won't/can't threaten your employer of any action/fine until 14 days after they are delinquent of pay. Just collect evidence. When this happened to me, I ended up buying a camcorder. My employer hired a locksmith and entered my apartment illegally, falsely improsoned me etc... I won in civil court 2 years later and am still fighting for my money through the court. I will soon file a criminal complaint with my downloaded camcorder evidence. |

IF it happens, file a complaint with the labor board. They frown on 10 or 11 month firings and will make them pay you anyway as well as the severance and return airfare. |

if he's going to fire u it's already going to happen.
U would have a strong labour board case. They dont usually take the side
of the owners in the 10th, 11th or 12 month firing story. Is ur school big enough to have 3 foreign teachers? the number for the labour board is all over this forum. Ive been fighting with the korean government (through the canadian government) to get my 2 years of pension back. Havent heard the outcome yet. |

Buy my book, are you saying I'm not that smart? I didn't plan on following up with that advice. I would feel very uncomfortable about doing that kind of thing and it wouldn't help my situation anyway, it would only make it worse. |

Sorry my quote didn't turn up the way I meant it to.
My boss is yet to talk to me but gave me a bit of a death stare today. I guess I just have to wait it out.
Thanks for all the help guys. |

Come right out and ask him and if he says he's going to then tell him that you will go to the labor board to make sure he pays you everything. Including severence. Get the firing in writing. |

Hang on as long as you can. With Thursday being March 1st, definitely do not say anything between now and Thursday. It would sound nice to make it into March when your contract is up in April. Keep a poker face and let him make the first move. Erode the days left on your contract as low as you can get it. Each day that passes by strengthens your hand. |

yeah, i'm the stupidest person in the world, which is why i don't resort to name calling. i didn't mean doing it while she was working there. make it a lesson plan, and if it happens fight the labor board while calling parents up on top of that. sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. sad but true. |
