I am landing in Korea on Friday and need to get myself online asap. So far, all I know is that I will be in Uijeongbu. One of my priorities is to arrange for an ISP to hook me up with speed of connection being of prime importance. Before I can do this, I need some information that you can hopefully help me with.
Is my choice limited by my location?
Who are the 'best' isp's?
Does anybody know if I will be able to speak to somebody in English so that I can get hooked up?
How long does it usually take to get connected?
Can I enter into a contract without my ARC or do I need to sort that first?
Thanks in advance for any advice that you can throw my way. |

KT are probably the best overall. Plusses and minuses to all ISPs, I suppose, but KT have great service, fast, never down and they can definately hook you up, so long as you are in Korea. So long as there's telephone service, one can get the internet. I've never once heard of someone who couldn't get wired here. They will come the same day you call or the next at the latest.
They speak English reasonably well, though again, some will contest that. It may depend on who is in the office when you call. Just flatten out your accent when you do call! Heck, native English speakers have enough trouble understanding Liverpudlians, I can only imagine what it sounds like from a Korean point of view....
You will need at least your ARC, maybe even some support from your employer in some way. Not trying to freak you out or anything, but sometimes these things can get sticky without a Korean on your side. |

Thanks for the advice
So it looks as though I will need to get my ARC sorted asap. I don't think I will have any problems as I struck lucky and bagged a public school job. I suppose it just means I need to get a copy of the business registration certificate asap. I wonder if I can get it when I meet the boss on Friday afternoon? :p
As for the accent... I bury it pretty deep when I need to. I never had any problems with the numerous telephone interviews I was party to and I do an excellent "Englishman". |

Being in a public school will make an easy go of it for you...lots of help getting things done. PM me when you arrive if I can be of any help.
Your ARC is the only ID that matters here....that and your passport. Keep them safe.
I have family in Liverpool and have been there many, many times...it would be interesting to meet you when you do arrive, though I am far from Uijongbu.
Good luck, have a safe trip. |

I'm not sure what you mean by saying this. He can hack into an account (provided he is going wireless) or someone can hack his account (provided he goes wireless)?
In any event, I don't see him counting eggs, just counting on having an internet connection. |

I don't need easier terms, thanks. Who's fault? Who said anything about wireless or hacking/being hacked/counting chickens/hatching chickens/having any chickens in the first place?
While being cryptic is kinda fun, being obtuse is kinda lame. |

hmm...don't count your eggs before they hatch means you shouldn't be optimistic about getting something that isn't going to definitely happen...
It seems like you're giving him a possible free egg, and you're saying, "maybe you should count this one as well."
If your saying was pertinent here, then you'd be making the case that it's probably unlikely that he'll be able to find an ISP here, so he shouldn't be expecting it to happen. |

and actually, you CAN count eggs before they hatch, they're called eggs
you shouldn't count your CHICKENS before they hatch, because they might stay as eggs
this has as much to do with the OP's questions as does the hacking into wireless LAN talk |
