I thought I knew, but some of the ideas that come up on this board are starting to confuse me. I've seen xenophobia, specific countries, religion and, even, being from a certain area of a country used as the definition. A little bit ago, I read a poster speculating that CPA is (was?) racist. I never got that impression - a rose-colored-glasses wearing apologist, at best, a troll, at worst, but not a racist.

Often it seems that people cry racism just to shut another poster up.

What bothers me, and it gets back to the old grammar/spelling/punctuation argument, when you use the term racist loosely, you cheapen it. It's a bad thing and shouldn't be thrown around.

God knows there is racism and it's probably not going away any time soon. I've seen it on this board today, but today I've seen things written and opinions about racism that are so far from any real definition of racism, that I question if some people do know what it is.

racism: the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

discrimination or prejudice based on race.

another definition:-

the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races.

discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race.

so basically what happened to me on the subway the other night by a korean male who should have known better. also what happened to derreck when he was "just walking along minding his own business". also what happened to the black english teacher guy when he was called a "monkey" and ended up in a fight.....

to name just three cases out of many more. all this by people, a race that is classed as advanced, who should really know better.

or am i being racist in my wide, sweeping generilsation of a race of people? my apologies if anybody thinks i am.....

Another irritating aspect of this issue is the lack of a clear definition of 'race' itself.

Rascism is an atittude that is accepted by one group against another because it's the thing to do. Like the white South Africans former apartheid against the blacks, or the rest of the world's anti semitic feelings about the jews.
