Old guy looks like Warren Buffett.
The westerners in the pictures are wearing clothing of the times as well. Cameras they are holding you don't see around anymore. Too bad, because they sure took good pictures. |

Fantastic shots. Those were opium pipes, BTW. Hillary was right regarding Koreans--historical amnesia, indeed. |

Oh please, its alright to be a bit touched but with all the stuff wrong with today's Korea its still a better place. Lets not forget that Korea then was one of the poorest places in the world. Want to see that? Go to Bangladesh..Im sure the people in that country would gladly take the problems associated with development.
And comparing 1950s Canada to 1950s Korea has to be a joke, right? |
Nah, wasn't comparing them, just saying it would be cool to ask how my grandparents would compare the two times. What was better, what was worse. As far as comparing Korea at that time to Bangledesh, I guess GDP and health wise they are similar, but I just think Korea today is a dirty, ugly, soulless, money-grubbing, pit of modernity. But hey, that's what the free-enterprise system is all about! |

It would interesting to see photos of Seoul too. Daegu was within the Busan Perimiter during the Korean War, so most of the infrastructure was not damaged. However, many Koreans took refuge in Daegu, if they were lucky enought to leave before the first Northern take over of Seoul.
I can't even imagine going through a war. Families trying to find ways to safety and food, and in the process somebody's 10 year old brother or sister gets lost in the chaos and is left to fend for themselves. Then after the fighting, trying to reclaim your old property from squatters and finding whoever you lost. |
