|
|
My school is closing down for good. My Director got a call two days before my final payment from my apartment building saying they want him to replace the wallpaper in our apartment. He wants us to pay for it! They say it smells like dog, because we have dogs.
Can he deduct money from my contract for this?
It doesn't say anywhere that we have to pay for anything in the apartment. Plus the wallpaper was old and abused before we lived there for a year. Plus it doesn't smell like dog and my owner new very well that we had dogs when we signed the contract. I've asked serveral Koreans at my school about this and they say its up to the condo to fix it for new tenants. We have been paying a condo fee for the year as well. Anyways I could go on and on.
So can he do this to us and what can we do to stop him? |

Buy several Febreeze (sp?) bottles and squirt the place down. Doggie-odor goodbye. |

Sometimes you do have to replace wallpaper in an apartment if you damaged it. It is not very unreasonable and it is usually very cheap. |

u werent helpful at all, he didnt damage the wallpaper dummy.
I doubt dog smell would cling to wallpaper to the point it would have to be replaced. they are totally scaming u esp. since u pay condo fees. I would falt our refuse to pay it. They cant take that off your paycheck |

i had the same thing a couple of months ago in an apartment i rented privately. the landlord wanted money for the walls, floors, small damage to the refridgerater and toaster oven (normal wear and tear for 2 years living at the place.) seeing as i was paying monthly and on time, when we brought my girlfriends father over to argue on my behalf, the landlord in the end only asked that we pay for some of the damage to the floor and dropped all the other c*** because he knew we weren't meant to pay for that. and we had a dog.
if you are paying that monthly rent its meant to cover normal wear and tear. don't let them make you pay for it. |

Wow, nice. Do you really need to resort to name calling to make your point?
How do you know the place doesn't just reek? I'm sure the OP is a nice person and all, but I've seen my share or renters that leave their place in less than livable condition.
If you've been living in a place for awhile, and you own dogs, there's the chance that you've done some damage. Take a second look at it with fresh eyes to see if there's any validity to it. |

there's only one four letter word beginning with a 'c' which would require censoring that i'm aware of, and it doesn't really fit grammatically into that sentence. |

If you have dogs, they can leave an odor which is quite offensive to others, even if it doesn't bother you. You might have to pay. Your boss should have some courage to represent you with the owner in this case.
As to the monthly condo fee, it isn't relevant here. The condo is individually owned. The monthly rent payed by your school on your behalf goes to the unit owner. The management fee is a utility payment that goes to a management company that supplies a variety of services and often includes several of your regular utilities. This money does not go to the owner of the unit or your boss. It is not used to repair the interior of the condo unit. |
