i know there will be many experienced travellers on this board, so i'm looking for some interesting advice, please. i'm finishing my job in july, and starting an mba course in september, which leaves the month of august open for interesting adventures.
please tell me what you recommend for someone with the following conditions:
-on a budget of around $2000US
-already been everywhere in western europe
-a place with sunshine, beaches, etc but not baking heat
-somewhere with an interesting culture or stuff worth exploring
-not predictable, but not dangerous either
nb. i'm not a sex tourist by the way
any suggestions? thanks.. |

If you go to Thailand, you could get all of what you're asking for. In the Northern part of the country you can go treking in the mountains for a few days, ride elephants, go down a river on a bamboo raft, do rafting, take a cooking lesson for a day or more in case you want to get a certification. Then when you go towards southern islands, of course you'll find beaches, you can go kayaking, take a diving course or simply go scuba diving and many other activities and it won't be too expensive. You can visit Bouddhist temples and even stay at one for a while. I met an Australian who did that and he loved his experience. |

You could go to Vietnam. I went there two summers ago, with my girlfriend. For 3 weeks, including 2 flights for both of us, and every cent we spent there (including spending $85 sending stuff in the mail) we spend $2,200USD. Also, we stayed in good hotels, with pools half the time. It has basically everything you want, but it will be hot, but the nice kind of 'I'm not stuck in Seoul' hot. Plus, when we went, it was sunny probably 18 out of the 21 days, even though it was monsoon season. |

I second Vietnam. My wife and I spent 2 weeks there and it was not nearly enough. Cheap food and accomadations, easy to get around with English and so many amazing things to see and do.
Though we have a month at that time and are doing Malaysia. Should be great too. |
