Has anyone shipped an acoustic guitar to Seoul. I am currently in the US and have signed a contract beginning early May. I would like to have my guitar while I'm there, but am unsure if I'll have enough room when packing.
If anyone has shipped from the states, approximately how much did it cost? Did you insure? Thanks, Christine |

Hi there,
If you have a hard case then you can probably take it with you on the flight if you don't mind carrying it.
Otherwise, unless its a particularly special guitar I would suggest you leave it and buy one here. They are dirt cheap generally. |

| My guitar is just an old beast that entertains me. You said buying one there is "dirt cheap." How much are you talking about? |

I can recommend bringing your 'old faithful' with you... if for no other reason that you will get LOADS of remarks from complete strangers about it.....
Last year I carried my guitar with me from Australia, all around Thailand and Singapore..... it was quite a lucky charm, and got me noticed a lot. It was quite a good icebreaker, and I had quite a few ladies make advances towards me when they (wrongly) assumed I was a pro guitar player
I may bring it with me to Korea in May..... |

I know this is an old thread but...
I have a Martin D 28 that I was thinking about taking to Korea. Will it be worth it or should I try to find a guitar of about equal value once there? I paid $1,300 US for it used. Could I find a similar deal over there? |

for that money you can buy one of the limited edition corts.
http://www.cort.co.kr/english/products/acoustics/list.asp?series_id=35
which are sweeeet.
they range around $1500 but sound like a mid $2000 range guitars.
you can spend under a gee and get some really great sounding domestic acoustics in korea.
you just have to get over the name brand recognition (i.e. lack of outside of korea). |

Many airlines have oversized fragile luggage compartments. Check if the one that you'll be flying does. I've taken guitars on planes many times. Get a hard-shelled case and be very careful. Very few will let you take it on the plane as carry on, though you might get lucky, just don't hold your breath.
Do be aware that you can buy some very decent guitars in Korea for decent prices.
BTW, what's the make & model of your guitar? All the best to you. |

PM Harpeau, he knows a great luthier who can custom build you an excellent guitar for under a thousand. |

Assuming we mean the same guy: He made my Epiphone sound at least $500 better, so I'll second the suggestion. He also has some gorgeous stuff on his walls. |
