I don't really know what is going on, but I had Hanaro for a long time and was kinda sorta ok with it. Then I moved and used the KT Megapass that was still working in the new place. KT was so much better, the images came through so much faster and the computer seemed to run better. The KT account from the old tenant ran out, so I called Hanaro and told them I had moved. As soon as Hanaro came over and installed their new modem and supposedly Premium service, the computer fan (I think) has been running double time. It gets hot really quickly, the fan makes a lot of noise and sometimes makes a horrible clicking noise. Hanaro said it was my fault and I had a virus. I wiped the hard-drive and re-installed Windows but it's still messed up. What can I do to make my computer stop overheating? Thanks in advance for the help. By the way it's a Hyunju laptop, Pentium 4 with only 256 MG RAM. Is that my problem?

I can't think how changing internet provider could make your laptop run hotter. I doubt it's anything to do with your internet connection.

256 RAM is very little, but, again, I don't see how that would cause the overheating and fan noise you're talking about.

It sounds like your fan is failing. Do you have any program that measures the CPU temperature?

Try opening task manager (right-click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and choose task manager) and see if anything is using lots of CPU. If nothing is using too much CPU then it may well be your fan is knackered.

Nope, it's 97-98% idle all the time. New fan on the way, I guess. I still blame Hanaro. Thanks, man.

Hehe... Almost as rich as "the internet broke my fan."

But, since I don't believe in ghosts, I'll go with the Hanaro guy... Wink

Thanks for the constructive and not-so-constructive criticism. Anyone else?

It's possible that due to moving the computer around some, dust got loose inside and is causing a heat problem. Either around the fan or perhaps the CPU. Get a can of compressed air and do your best to blast it out. It being a laptop, I can't say that opening it up is possible or wise, but I probably would try to get in there somehow.

If it seems like too much, take it to a shop and have them clean it out. The dust buildup inside a desktop over even 6 months is incredible, so I can only imagine a laptop, which typically never gets the insides cleaned out.

After all this, get a laptop cooling pad.

Merci. But it's still more fun to yell at Hanaro.

Bah, my fan runs all the time. I got that CPU overclocked by nearly 30% (and it's stable, too).

Well, Speed Fan says that I am burning up. It's showing temperatures of up to 80 degrees C. Time to go to that shop, I guess. Hanaro, I curse thee.
