Hello everyone!

I'm having my first phone interview with a public school tonight! I already have lots of questions to ask, but I'll probably draw a total blank when it comes time to ask them. Any advice? Suggestions? Questions that I absolutely have to ask? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Make sure to ask plenty of questions about your housing - how far from the school it is and what you are responsible for paying!

It might be a very one sided interview (them asking you questions). Followed by congradulations, send me your documents.

Ask about working hours.

Will you have to be in school when there are no classes?
Will you be expected to teach winter and summer classes during vacation? If so, how long for?
How long is your vacation?
Is there a set curriculum or will you be expected to create your own lessons?
What time will do you have to arrive at school each day?
When can you leave at the end of the day?

Chill out. Speak clearly, and not too quickly. Organize a few questions on a piece of paper. If you get satisfactory answers to those, ask for an email address for someone at the school and tell them you will have more questions. Email all those questions abotu apartment and stuff. Ask for pictures too....

the biggest mistake I made...

not asking for the email of the person I was replacing... if I knew then what I know now.... is urely wouldn't be here... and that's why i'm changing jobs!

Remember it's like a game for many. Ask what they'll guarantee....as to pay, overtime, pension payments (mandatory, but many try to avoid it 'cos you pay 1/2 and they pay 1/2). Once you have their verbal guarantee...try...if possible to get it in writing. (That's the game part.)
Remember....English education has been identified as a means of making money. Hagwons....at least far too many of 'em...see foreigners as a "draw card". Korean people own and operate it...THEY"RE the REAL players....the foreigner is the window dressing to bring in the customers.
By all means.....ask to speak with at least 2 foreign teachers they currently employ. Two...because one might be a kiss-azz who'll say whatever they want you to hear.
