I just spent 12,000 Won for a tiny stick of deodorant. I'm sure I can find it cheaper somewhere, but spending an hour in search of deodorant will probably never happen. Does anybody know of an online site that ships to Korea. Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid.... for these types of things.....

If you happen to go into Seoul, there are black/grey market shops where you can get things more reasonably.

There's a good one directly across from Hyundai Dept. Store in Sinchon, for example.

I beat you....once spent W25,000. I was really desperate!

I saw Western deodorant at the international food store next to What the Book.

But there are many small shops that carry...clothes in front, pots and pans in back, and a small selection of "imported" items, usually including deodorant and oatmeal. I can tell you where a few are in Gwangju...

What's it look like? What's it called? Across the big street or one of the little ones? I'm in that area very often, and would appreciate any details, thanks!

Hannam market is better than the one in Itaewon, by a long shot. It has several kinds of deoderant, priced at about 5,000 won. The front of the store has western medicine (Tylenol PM, cold and flu medicine, Advil) but it's wicked expensive, like 14,000 and up per pack.

They also have....... frozen burritos. Glory!

Tylenol is available at any local pharmacy. It usually costs from 1,500-2,500 won for a box of about ten horse pills (650mg).

Deodorant is a bit tougher. I have developed the habit of buying a year's worth every time I visit home.

Of course....I just saw the other day, the same place I've been buying oatmeal for years...

In the Gumgamno underground mall, on the L part that goes towards Migliore. If you are walking undergrounds towards Migliore, there are two shops on the right.

As for deoderant, a friend told me that while it is impossible to find in the winter, it's not too difficult to find during the summer in department-y stores like E-mart. And we live in a pretty small area.

So...maybe you can just not sweat until this summer?

Deodorant is not hard to find. Even in smaller areas. Beauty/makeup shops, some pharmacies, etc. I buy Nivea (Fresh is white, Dry is Blue). The bigger ones cost about 8,000 Won. There's a nother brand that I buy just down the street (I'm somewhat in the boonies) at a really small beauty shop, but I forget the name of it right. Thin it's around 5,000 Won. These are all the powder, white cakey kind, but I like those. Offer longer protection.

If you're picky about your deodorant and you don't like those kinds, you've probably made life difficult for yourself.

It's across the big street. I'm not very good at describing, but if you're directly across there's a building with a walkway down the middle...kinda like a little underground market. You go down a little hill (like you're going down a side-street, except that there's a building above you). It's the first shop on the left.
