I seed 1.5 then by by. If its a movie I usually download it watch it and erase it. Unless its a good movie then I keep it.. If its a tv show I just delete it.

on TV shows I seed for 6-8 hrs.. watch it and delete it. I easily keep a ratio over 3. It is inexcusable to have a low ratio while living in a country which has such fast broadband.

rss feed helps a lot to jump on and complete torrents fast which maximizes upload availability.

I can never get demonoid's tracker to properly update my ratio. My isp randomly disconnects every little while while running a torent client, so I assume that's what's hosing me on ratio. I leave things seeded forever and should probably have a ratio in the mid hundreds, but even after doing all of the things on its faq, my ratio gets no love. I think the ratio that it reports for me is still quite good (luckly my downloads are reported as infrequently as my uploads heh), but its hugely (as in, uploads are probably off by 20x or more) inaccurate.

IMO, seed when you can. Some people can't all the time. I can seed about 5 gigs of stuff at a time, because of the space limitations of my laptop HD. I have some extra space on my external, but when I seed from that, the thing purrs all damn night.

It's kind of ironic to debate the moral dos and don'ts of thievery, don't you think? It's like a traffic jam... when you're already late.

Ratios are bogus anyway. Leaving a new popular movie up will get you a good ratio, but it's borderline unnecessary with all the other seeders. Leave up the good shit that someone might be searching for a long time for, and you get no cred, but it's obv. more valuable to the 'community'.

You can't logically tell someone to buy a hard drive just so other people can download from you, can you?

Sorry, I wasn't making an analogy, just reciting lyrics to a horrible song that popped in to my head when I said something was ironic. I was horribly drunk at the time.

I know there is a code of conduct, and I didn't discredit it, I just found it ironic. Every thinking being has a code of conduct in every social (and often anti-social) interaction it faces in life (with the possible exception of the early morning adjummas on the subway).

I just disagree with the statement, "I'd say you shouldn't be using torrents then." How about this one (I'm hung over instead of drunk now): that's like saying to a fellow looter, "you can't take that TV unless you hold the door open for the next guy, even if that means buying an expensive doorstop." Perhaps the decent thing to do, but still funny. Downloading, for me, is as much about saving money as it is about convenience, I don't want to save every movie file I download for eternity, or even longer than is reasonable or annoying to me.

I can't imagine how sh*tty life would be if I had to pay for all of my music while I live in Korea.

The guy he quoted said he shared for 2x the download time, because of limited HD space. Similarly, I'd have to buy a new laptop HD to conveniently share a lot of my files all the time, which would be the expensive doorstop, because we'd have to spend money to help other people steal after us. I should just give up anyway, no worries.

When I come back in late May I'll buy a new desktop, then I'll play by the rules, k?

Also, I'll be on here asking about specifics for a new rig. My PC knowledge is intermediate, as I haven't built a PC in about 6 years, so I'm quite outdated on a lot of specifics. I won't bother asking now, because who knows what will be true in 3 months.
