Have any folks studied Korean at the Korean Language Program at Yonsei University?
The facililities and the faculty look good (in the brochure) but if anyone has actually studied there, it would be more relevant.
Would like to study for 2-3 months intensive (at least 2-3 hours of class per day).
Thanks for any information.

I finished two levels (2 & 3) at Sogang and several of the students I knew transfered from Yonsei because there was very little opportunity for the students to talk. |

i went through the whole program- started out in the B course (2,3,4) and then switched to A course (4,5,6).
i would say that it gives you an excellent foundation in terms of grammar and vocab, but like SuperHero said, you have to find other ways of paracticing to talk. get a language exchange partner or something.
or you'll end up like me. i finished about a year and a half ago, and i can understand everything, but my 말하기 sucks. (probably because i don't practice. time to do another language exchange!)
are you doing the morning or evening classes?
i would recommend B course for westerners (they do too) even though its slower. you'll have more opportunities to talk. it was also WAY more fun because of the diverse students. |

I agree with this. I did level 1 and 2 of the A course and by the end of level 2 I was sick of it (partly because I had a horrible teacher). I reccomend level 1 as it gives you a strong grammar base to work from, but after you have that I think it's important to speak as much as you can.
I remember sitting in class during level 2 and realizing that an entire 55 minute class had just passed and not a single student spoke anything more than a few words. It was terrible. The teacher spoke constantly and often just to herself. The entire class was dissapointed with her. Others I know enjoyed level two, so maybe I just had a bad experience. |

i have many friends who go there, and most of them know a lot of grammar, some vocabulary, but can't speak worth shit. |

I went to Yonsei (A course) from level 1 up to level 5 (but didn't quite finish level 5 because I got a job). I had 1 bad teacher and 2 or 3 mediocre teachers, but most teachers were excellent.
However, the program sucked. They're still stuck in 1950's methodology (well, B course was intended to be communicative but I've heard that it didn't quite make it).
I went to Sogang for levels 4~7 and it was great. |

Has anyone gone to or heard about the course at Korean Language Education Cultural Center? Or the Lingua Express Program? |

I never studied at Yonsei, but I met a lot of ex-Yonsei students at Sogang. They vastly preferred Sogang's more communicative-based methods.
I'd recommend Sogang, too. |

Shinchon station the exit should be marked for sogang university. But if it's not take the exit near the washrooms and then when you get out look for the KEB which should be across the street - keep that on your right and walk about 4 minutes until you find the front gate. |

It's basically the exact opposite direction (from the subway station) as Yonsei. |
